Marvel’s ‘The Inhumans’ Coming To ABC In 2017, Will Premiere In IMAX Theatres

It’s been no secret that Marvel has been uncertain about what to do with “The Inhumans.” At one time, the property was headed to the big screen and was even slated for a release date of July 2, 2019. Earlier this year, it was taken off the schedule, but over the summer, Kevin Feige was insisting it was still coming to theaters. Well, that’s certainly still happening, but with a pretty interesting twist.

Rooney Mara Gets Institutionalized In First Trailer For Jim Sheridan’s ‘The Secret Scripture’

Sometimes, all the talent in the world can’t make a picture work, and while “The Secret Scripture” had a great ensemble, and an acclaimed director, it failed to make much of a ripple when it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this fall. Indeed, the movie is still without a U.S. distributor, but the first trailer has landed nonetheless, providing a taste of what audiences can expect.

Based on the novel by Sebastian Barry, directed by Jim Sheridan (“My Left Foot,” “In America“), and starring Rooney Mara, Vanessa Redgrave, Jack Reynor, Theo James, and Eric Bana, the film finds an elderly woman, committed to a mental hospital, reflecting on her life during the turbulent times of the 1930s and 1940s.

Joel Edgerton On Finding Richard ‘Loving’ And What’s After ‘The Gift’ [Interview]

In a year when it’s truly unclear who will fill out the Best Actor field its important not to forget the great work by Joel Edgerton in Jeff Nichols’ “Loving.”

The Aussie, who is best known for his roles in “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Great Gatsby,” plays Richard Loving, a man found himself in a protracted legal battle over the legitimacy of his marriage to Mildred Jeter (played by Ruth Negga) in the state of Virginia after they were married in 1958.

‘Bleed For This’ Starring Miles Teller Plays Like ‘Million Dollar Baby’ With A Feel Good Ending [Review]

This is a reprint of our review from the 2016 Telluride Film Festival.

It’s to the credit of the boxing picture “Bleed For This” that it goes nine, ten, or maybe even 11 rounds before it’s clear just which way the final decision is going to go. That’s not a reference to the outcome of the movie’s climactic 1990s match between Miles Teller’s real-life Vinny Paz character and Roberto Duran, but rather the movie’s own bout between its better instincts and the need to wrap up on the most simplistically crowd-pleasing note possible.

Michael Shannon Reveals He Was Almost In ‘Inherent Vice,’ Fell Asleep Watching ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice’

This week, Tom Ford‘s “Nocturnal Animals” comes slithering into cinemas, and while it boasts Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead roles, it’s Michael Shannon who arguably steals the entire movie. His weathered cop with a loose grip on ethics is utterly fantastic, a big scenery chewing part that Shannon masticates with the juices running down his chin. Any movie seems to be immediately improved by his presence, and had the tides of fate gone differently, we might’ve seen his talents in a film from Paul Thomas Anderson (and we should say, the project did just fine without Shannon).

Ryan Reynolds Reveals There Were “Scary Fights” Making ‘Deadpool,’ Says He’s “Sad” Tim Miller Exited The Sequel

You should already know the story of “Deadpool” by now, but here’s the very short version: first introduced in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” 20th Century Fox completely botched the character in almost every way possible. Ryan Reynolds continued to pursue a solo movie that would be completely true to the character, but Fox were never that interested, until test footage “leaked” online, earning instant fan support, and forcing the studio’s hand.

Steven Knight Talks Adapting ‘The Girl In The Spider’s Web,’ Explains Why The Approach Is “Quite Different”

How quickly things change. It was in September when Rooney Mara candidly revealed she was “not holding out hope any more” to return as Lisbeth Salander in a followup to “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.” But only a couple of weeks back, Sony finally kicked “The Girl In The Spider’s Web” into gear, with rumors already surfacing that Mara was slated to return (those details have since been scrubbed from the trades, so it’s still unofficial).

Anita Rocha da Silveira’s ‘Kill Me Please’ Is An Enigmatic, Unsatisfying Look At Adolescence, Sex & Death [AFI Fest Review]

The invincible feeling of adolescence, the hormonal pull of sex, the chastising hand of religion, and the grim reminder of mortality that comes when faced with death are just some of the ideas director Anita Rocha da Silveira grapples with in “Kill Me Please.” An ambitious film that aims to be as provocative as its title, Silveira’s feature debut is high on atmosphere but struggles to find a conclusion to tie together its various narrative strands, which all spring from a serial killer tale at its core.

Doc ‘Mr. Chibbs’ Is A Minor Key Look At The Midlife Crisis Of Basketball Star Kenny Anderson [Doc NYC Review]

In 2014, former NBA All-Star Kenny Anderson traveled to North Korea with enfant terrible Dennis Rodman to play an exhibition basketball game. The event, which was billed as “basketball diplomacy,” was really just a birthday gift from Rodman to Kim Jong-un, the supreme leader of the Dprk. It was a head-turning, scandalous move for Anderson (no one was particularly surprised by Rodman, who has long had a friendly relationship with Kim).

Uneven ‘Divines’ Still Marks Director Houda Benyamina As One To Watch [Review]

The first-generation immigrant experience, class and racial unrest, coming of age, a young adult romance, and a crime story all collide in Houda Benyamina’s debut feature “Divines.” But instead of those elements creating a complex tale of contemporary life in France’s underclass, the resulting picture is an odd collection of strident single notes, a film that presents a curiously all or nothing stance on the chances of those living on the fringes of society have in finding a better fate.

Formerly Retired Hayao Miyazaki Reveals He’s Working On A New Feature Film

It’s hard to keep an artist away from their trade, and in an era when musicians and acts formerly lost to time routinely come back together, it’s not a surprise that one of the world’s most beloved filmmakers still has a hunger for the big screen. Two years ago, acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki (“Spirited Away,” “Princess Mononoke“) announced he was retiring and the revered animation house Studio Ghibli which was built on his name, was shuttering its operations.

Neill Blomkamp Darkly Reimagines Donald Trump’s Air Force One & Motorcade

Sometimes in the face of horror, all you can do is laugh. Last week, the election of Donald Trump as President brought deep worry, anxiety, and concern across the country, but it hasn’t taken long for filmmakers to start reacting. Over the weekend, Dave Chappelle hit “Saturday Night Live” and delivered a powerful opening monologue, while Kate McKinnon sang the late Leonard Cohen‘s “Hallelujah” while in character as Hillary Clinton.

Ryan Reynolds And Paul Wernick Talk ‘Deadpool’ Sequel And The Surprising Link To ‘Guardians 2’

Ryan Reynolds may be one of the biggest stars in Hollywood at the moment, but at a special “Deadpool” screening and Q&A at Fox Studios in Los Angeles this weekend, moderator John Horn humorously introduced the former Sexiest Man Alive as “six-time Academy Award watcher Ryan Reynolds.” That’s a very on-brand description for an actor who, after being brought low by such mega-flops as 2011’s “Green Lantern” and 2013’s “R.I.P.D.

Mark Wahlberg Finds Courage & Justice In New Trailer For ‘Patriots Day’

With the country feeling more divided than ever, maybe we need a movie like “Patriots Day” to show us what we’re capable of in our darkest hour. And while the strain of patriotism in the trailer for the new movie can sometimes feel a bit jingoist, the film is perhaps a reminder that we’re better united against a common cause, that split into factions.

Mark Wahlberg reteams with Peter Berg just a couple months after the true story “Deepwater Horizon,” for this dramatization around the events of the 2013 Boston Marathon, and the bombing that rocked the world, shook a city, and saw authorities mobilize to catch two terrorists whose horrific act claimed innocent lives.

Emma Watson Brings ‘Beauty And The Beast’ To Life In New Trailer For Disney’s Live Action Romance

There is no question that Disney‘s upcoming live action “Beauty And The Beast” has some big shoes to fill. The beloved 1991 movie became the first animated movie in motion picture history to be nominated for Best Picture, was a massive box office hit, and won Oscars for Best Song and Best Original Score. It’s a classic in Disney’s animated canon, so bringing it to flesh and blood and CGI life is a challenge, not that the upcoming effort isn’t without some big talent behind it.
