Atomic Blonde Review [SXSW 2017]

2 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Despite director David Leitch’s ties to Keanu ReevesAtomic Blonde is no Lady John Wick. Cold War locales may radiate similar neon hues (Wick’s Russian bath house), but this espionage thrill-kicker is more about consequence then henchman disposal. Revenge is merely an underlying motivation, as government parties fight to keep a power struggle concrete while the Berlin wall crumbles down. Would a Wick/Blonde crossover be powerful enough to level cities? Undeniably. Let’s first appreciate what we have, though – Charlize Theron giving everyone in Atomic Blonde the fucking business.

Berlin, 1989. A German city loaded with secret government operatives, as East/West tensions reach their breaking point. Britain, France, America – everyone has agents in Germany, but a rumored list could out every name if it were to be exposed. This is why MI6 Agent Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) is sent to Germany, with a mission of retrieval. Her »

Charlize Theron Cracked Two Teeth While Filming ‘Atomic Blonde’

9 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

To play a lethal spy in the upcoming tentpole “Atomic Blonde,” Charlize Theron really had to suffer for her craft. “It was so hard. Are you kidding me?” Theron confessed at a Q&A following the film’s premiere on Sunday night at SXSW. She’d call up the director, David Leitch, with her extreme doubts after she spent her first two weeks of training only fine-tuning a fight stance. “I said, ‘This is never going to work!’ I look like Big Bird,” Theron recalled. “I’m cupping small titties, and I don’t know what I’m doing.”

But she got the hang of it, thanks to her team of eight trainers and months of gym time. “Atomic Blonde” is a throwback of sorts — an action thriller set in 1989 Berlin that would make James Bond proud, with shades of “Alias” meets “The Bourne Identity.” Judging from the hoots and »

Charlize Theron Is a Lethal British Spy in ‘Atomic Blonde’ First Trailer

10 March 2017 11:55 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Charlize Theron proves she’s not one to toy with in the first trailer for “John Wick” director David Leitch’s action thriller “Atomic Blonde.”

Theron portrays Lorraine Broughton, a lethal British spy who’s sent to Germany just before the Berlin Wall collapses in 1989. Her mission: target an espionage ring that killed an undercover agent and is suspected of smuggling double agents into the West.

Charlize Theron Beats the Sh*t Out of Basically Everyone in the Atomic Blonde Trailer

10 March 2017 9:05 AM, PST | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Charlize Theron is good at a lot of things, but she particularly excels at beating the sh*t out of bad guys. In Atomic Blonde, the Oscar winner stars as MI6's deadliest assassin, Agent Lorraine Broughton, as she makes her way through the seedy underbelly of Berlin. The film features some John Wick-worthy fight scenes (likely thanks to director David Leitch, who also helmed the Keanu Reeves action flick), and costars James McAvoy, so we're already in heaven. I watched John Wick for the first time, and now the world is a cold, dead place

8 March 2017 9:19 AM, PST | Screen Anarchy | See recent Screen Anarchy news »

The nasty, fuck-all action genre is primed for a come back.    Prominent in the late 70's and early 80's, the level of violence and nihilism in films from that era are tailor made for this post-2016 rejoinder of resistance, frustration and anger. In an interesting turn of events, noted "whoa" enthusiast and red pill taker Keanu Reeves has recently emerged as something of an unlikely poster boy for this unofficial movement.         Mr. Reeves' action star resurgence isn't really surprising. Reeves is a very talented performer, but one of his most endearing attributes is his...let's say "purposeful blankness." At certain points, this talent has been referred to as a weakness. However, that kind of criticism is missing the point. Reeves is...

Isla Fisher And Keanu Reeves To Play A Married Couple For The Starling

Isla Fisher and John Wick: Chapter 2‘s Keanu Reeves are on the verge of joining The Starling, a new dramedy from Finnish director Dome Karukoski.

Deadline has the scoop, revealing that both stars are nearing deals to play a married couple, one who soon find their lives plunged into despair following the sudden loss of a child. Matt Harris is the brains behind the hot-tipped script, which once found itself on Hollywood’s Black List of unproduced screenplays. More often than not, once a screenplay is plucked from the Black List, it isn’t long before the property is whipped into shape, and with Fisher and Reeves now circling, don’t be too surprised if The Starling is fast-tracked into production before the year’s end – you know, providing all of the necessary schedules align.

Here’s the synopsis, per Deadline:

Movie Review – John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)

28 February 2017 2:40 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

John Wick: Chapter 2, 2017.

Directed by Chad Stahleski.

Starring Keanu Reeves, Riccardo Scamarcia, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Common, Ruby Rose, Laurence Fishburne, and John Leguizamo.

Synopsis:

After returning to the criminal underworld to repay a debt, John Wick discovers that a large bounty has been put on his life.

The first John Wick was quite simply awesome. It was packed full of action that you wasn’t edited to death, had a good sense of humour and Keanu Reeves killed about 70-80 people over the course of 97 minutes. Whilst not reaching the dizzy heights of the original, Chapter 2 is a worthy sequel to the 2014 sleeper hit.

Starting immediately after the end of Chapter 1, the film opens with a spectacular night chase as John tries to get his beloved car back. It’s bombastic, loud and amazing. Keanu Reeves has always been known for throwing himself into physical stunts and this »

Exclusive: How Judd Apatow Has Cultivated Success on TV

27 February 2017 7:50 AM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Judd Apatow is no stranger to success -- or the work it takes to get to where he’s at today.

After getting his start on TV as a co-creator and co-producer of The Ben Stiller Show and, later, honing his craft as a writer on The Larry Sanders Show, he wrote and produced Freaks and Geeks as well as creating Undeclared. Though they only lasted one season each, both shows would go on to become cult classics while Apatow largely shifted his focus to film. It was there he found box office success with Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, followed by an era of bromantic comedies with The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up and Superbad.

“I didn’t really plan to do TV,” Apatow tells Et on a snowy day in January -- the first of two conversations that coincidentally happened on snow-filled days during a surprisingly mild winter in New York City. While excited »

Kurt Russell’S Ego

We’ve seen him in toy form, but now ahead of Tuesday’s brand new trailer, we’ve had our first real look at Kurt Russell as Star-Lord’s father, Ego the Living Planet, as he’ll appear in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He’s a little bit different to how he looks in the comics, given that he’s not a giant planet with a face. They have kept the beard though. Take a look here.

Keanu Reeves Talks John Wick: Chapter 3

Keanu Reeves offers John Wick: Chapter 3 story idea

With John Wick: Chapter 2 having pulled in $125 million and counting around the globe, it looks all but assured that Keanu Reeves will be back to close out the trilogy, and speaking to Empire, the star has offered his thoughts on what he’s like to see from John Wick: Chapter 3:

“I think the opening of the film should be Wick just trying to escape from New York,” states Reeves. “Literally trying to get off the island. Maybe he asks the Bowery King for help. Maybe John Leguizamo comes and helps me out. ‘John, I can’t do it, you’re excommunicado!’. Maybe the High Table shows up. And then the High Table starts firing guns. And then maybe this kind of thing starts to happen between the High Table and Continental? Maybe John is the activator of this confrontation, and perhaps there’s a war? Wouldn’t that be awesome? »

Review: John Wick: Chapter Two

26 February 2017 8:31 AM, PST | Pure Movies | See recent Pure Movies news »

This is the Pure Movies review of John Wick: Chapter Two, directed by Chad Stahelski and starring Keanu Reeves, Common, Riccardo Scamarcio, Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose, Bridget Moynahan, Lance Reddick, Franco Nero, with John Leguizamo, and Ian McShane. Reviewed by Danny Smith for Pure Movies. On the face of it the first John Wick looked like another throwaway action B-movie but it sure proved us wrong. Keanu Reeves played the titular character in the stylish action thriller; a famous assassin grieving for his dead wife and being rudely interrupted by his past coming back to haunt him. It was a surprising hit for Reeves and one of his best action films since The Matrix. It could have quite easily been left as a stand-alone but nowadays with any successful action film comes a sequel and, ultimately, a trilogy. In this case that’s not a bad thing. »

Why John Wick director Chad Stahelski is the perfect choice to reboot Highlander

25 February 2017 7:00 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Tom Jolliffe on why John Wick director Chad Stahelski is the perfect choice to helm the Highlander reboot…

Stunt-man turned director Chad Stahelski has certainly had a good start to his burgeoning career as an action auteur. John Wick began what is now in the process of becoming a hugely successful franchise. Two films in, with a booming and expansive box office appeal. Next up for him is, all being well (as this project has long gestated and had directors come and go, year on year) is a remake of Highlander.

Now I should state two things now. Firstly, I love Highlander. The first film is an underrated piece of brilliance. From the visuals, to the music to the sheer style of it, Highlander is one of a kind. It then spawned four more films (none of which were good) and a TV show, as well as comics, anime and more. »
