CBS’ “The Odd Couple” will be paying tribute to the late Garry Marshall on Nov. 7 with a cavalcade of special guest stars from the director’s oeuvre.

In the episode, Oscar (Matthew Perry) reconnects with people from his father Walter’s life while preparing to scatter his ashes behind the candy factory his father used to own. Marshall played Walter in an April episode of the series. The guests will come from Marshall’s TV hits, including Ron Howard, Marion Ross, Anson Williams and Don Most from “Happy Days,” Cindy Williams from “Laverne & Shirley,” Pam Dawber from “Mork & Mindy” and Marshall’s sister (and famed director) Penny Marshall.

Marshall helped develop and executive produced the first TV iteration of “The Odd Couple” for Paramount TV in 1970 and served as an executive consultant on the remake.

‘American Horror Story’ Crossover: ‘Asylum’s’ Lana Winters to Appear on ‘Roanoke’

5 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Now in its sixth season, FX’s “American Horror Story” franchise has started to hint at how the past stories are all interwoven. And characters from previous seasons have popped throughout other installments as well.

Now executive producer Ryan Murphy reveals that Lana Winters — from Season 2’s “Asylum” — will make an appearance on this season’s “Roanoke.”

He tweeted: “Sarah Paulson’s ‘Asylum’ ultimate survivor Lana Winters returns this season on ‘Ahs: Roanoke.’ Happy Halloween.”

These crossovers are becoming more common: Paulson, who has appeared on every season of “American Horror Story” (and has famously survived each), also recently reprised her role from “Murder House” (psychic Billie Dean Howard), in last season’s “American Horror Story: Hotel.”

Gabourey Sidibe’s fan favorite Queenie, also starred on “Coven,” made an appearance on “Hotel” as well — though it »

‘Lucifer’ Grabs Full-Season Renewal From Fox

4 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Here’s some news appropriate for Halloween: Fox has given a full-season pickup to its sophomore drama “Lucifer.”

The Monday 9 p.m. drama from Warner Bros. TV has been a modest performer in live ratings but draws a respectable crowd with double-digit gains in Nielsen’s L3 and L7 delayed-viewing stats. To date, the show is averaging a 2.0 demo rating in adults 18-49 and about 6.6 million viewers in L7. Fox said the show is up to 8 million viewers for the season to date on average when all multiplatform viewing is factored in.

The DC Comics-inspired drama stars Tom Ellis as a bored Lord of Hell who decides to move to Los Angeles and team with a female cop (played by Lauren German) to take down criminals. “Lucifer” airs as the companion to fellow DC Comics property “Gotham.”

Fox’s back-nine order brings the show’s total episode tally for season two to 22.

NBC is developing a comedy series from the minds behind “Parks and Recreation” and “30 Rock.”

Mike Schur and Matt Hubbard have come together to develop “Action Land,” Variety has learned exclusively. The comedy landed at NBC with a put pilot commitment.

“Action Land” follows the exploits of the employees of a struggling local amusement park in Arizona.

Hubbard is penning the single-cam, 30-minute pilot, and will exec produce with Schur and 3 Arts Entertainment’s David Miner. Universal Television, where both Schur and Hubbard are under overall deals, is the studio.

‘American Horror Story’: ‘Murder House’ to Meet ‘Coven’ in Crossover Season, Says Ryan Murphy

20 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

American Horror Story” is no stranger to throwing in callbacks to previous seasons, seemingly tying all of its installments together in a big, bizarre interconnected universe. But it’s about to take that concept one step further.

The anthology’s co-creator, Ryan Murphy, revealed at Entertainment Weekly‘s Popfest on Sunday that he’s planning a crossover season for “Murder House” (Season 1) and “Coven” (Season 3). And it will move beyond just callbacks.

“There will be characters from ‘Murder House’ and characters from ‘Coven’ together,” he clarified.

The crossover will not, however, be the next season, which has already been greenlit. This may be because of actor schedules; Connie Britton, for example, who starred in the “Murder House” season of “AHS,” has a season of “Nashville” debuting on CMT early next year.

“I’ve [already] started going to actors from both of the seasons, quietly, saying, ‘I think in this window, if you could fit us in,' »

Nielsen Retracts Data Suggesting Record Espn Subscriber Loss

36 minutes ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Nielsen has retracted data issued last week after coming under fire from Espn for suggesting cable networks suffered alarming declines to their subscriber counts.

The measurement company is re-crunching its numbers from its monthly “Cable Network Coverage Areas Universe Estimate” for November, which clients received Friday. Nielsen uses its national panel to estimate the number of households that receive cable channels like Espn, CNN, and others.

Amid client complaints over perceived inaccuracies, Nielsen released the following statement:

“Nielsen is investigating a larger than usual change in the November 2016 Cable Network Coverage Area Household and Persons Universe Estimates (versus the prior month). We take the accuracy of our data very seriously and are conducting a thorough analysis to determine whether or not there is an issue with these estimates. We are working closely with our clients and will update them as soon as the analysis is complete.”

‘Stranger Things’ Newscast Reports of Barb’s Disappearance (Watch)

1 hour ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Netflix’s top story tonight: Barb has disappeared and Eleven has stolen “unprecedented amounts” of Eggo waffles.

A YouTube video on Netflix’s channel, released on Halloween, shows some archival footage from “Minute by Minute,” a local news show from fictional TV station Wiyz. The report is presented by real-life news anchor Brenda Woods and breaks the news of Barb’s disappearance.

“Barbara Holland, a student at Hawkins High, known as Barb to her friends, was last seen at Steve Harrington’s home just a few days ago with a number of other Hawkins-area teens,” Woods says.

She reports that Barb’s friends described her as “loyal to a fault,” and as “the kind of girl who notices if you’re wearing a new bra.”

Woods throws in some humor when describing that Barb was last seen wearing “a pink blouse, green pants, blue puffer jacket, and an over-sized pair of absolutely fantastic glasses.”

Quantico Review: “Kmforget”

2 hours ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

This season of Quantico has been, to say the least, a massive disappointment, and the previous episode didn’t give me any hope at all that thinks would turn around. With that in mind, let’s take a look at last night’s new episode, “Kmforget.” The episode opens in the future as everyone still alive is in a very precarious and unfortunate position. Just like before, I find it harder and harder to care. They’re in a bad spot, they’ll mostly get out of it, someone unexpected will probably die. Despite the raised stakes, it just doesn’t interest anymore. The more interesting story

Are Megyn Kelly and Fox News Better Together Than Apart?

2 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Megyn Kelly and Fox News have had a whirlwind affair. Ever since the 21st Century Fox-owned cable-news outlet launched her “Kelly File” at 9 p.m. in October of 2013  — its first major change to its primetime lineup in more than 11 years – both sides have reaped a harvest of viewership, ad sales, and media buzz.

Now the two partners must consider whether they would be better off without each other.

The answer may be a resounding “No.” While an anchor of Kelly’s caliber, presence, and renown would be a major get for any number of TV-news outlets, it’s not clear whether any of them would want to fork over the money that appears to be involved in her current talks with Fox News. Kelly has been receiving a sum around $15 million in the last year of her current contract and, according to a recent report in the Wall Street Journal, has »

Donna Brazile Out as CNN Contributor After Disclosure of Clinton Campaign Interactions

2 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

CNN has formerly severed ties with Donna Brazile, the longtime Democratic strategist, following the WikiLeaks disclosures of Brazile’s contacts with Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Brazile is accused of providing information to the campaign about at least one of the questions in a CNN-hosted presidential primary town hall in March. The question was related to the candidates’ position on the death penalty.

CNN disclosed Monday that Brazile formally resigned on Oct. 14. She had been off CNN’s air since mid-July when she took over as interim head of the Democratic National Committee. That move for Brazile came amid another leaked email scandal that forced the resignation of Debbie Wasserman Schultz as DNC chief.

Brazile’s communications with the Clinton campaign were among the thousands of confidential emails released via WikiLeaks following the hack of DNC’s computer systems.
