Exclusive: Phaedra Parks Announces She’s Finally Divorced and Ready for Her ‘New Chapter’

3 November 2016 10:09 AM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Phaedra Parks is ready to step out on her own -- again.

“I'm actually divorced,” Phaedra reveals exclusively to Et. “I am done … it was very anticlimactic, shall I say? No one gets married to end in divorce, so it's bittersweet.”

Phaedra had been pursuing that divorce from now ex-husband Apollo Nida since 2014, when he began serving an eight-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to bank fraud. Now, the 43-year-old tells Et the split is official and she’s looking forward to her future.

“It's been a very long, hectic process, but at the end of the day, I'm excited to start a new chapter in my life,” she shares. “We were a family. This is pretty much the death of that family unit, so it's sad … but at the same time, it's giving me a new beginning.”

Meet the ‘Moana’ Producer Who Helped Disney Animate Female Empowerment

3 November 2016 8:00 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Disney’s “Moana” (opening November 23rd) boasts several animation breakthroughs: It will be the first major movie ever translated into Tahitian; the teenage heroine (voiced by Hawaiian newcomer Auli’i Cravalho) has no love interest; and, it’s the first CG feature directed by Disney hand-drawn vets John Musker and Ron Clements (“The Princess and the Frog,” “Aladdin,” “The Little Mermaid”).

Moana” also marks the feature producing debut of Osnat Shurer, who was in charge of the shorts program at Pixar (“Lifted,” “One Man Band,” “Boundin'”), and later jumped to Disney to head development before getting the promotion. However, Musker said her pre-Pixar experience was just as valuable; before she joined the animation house in 2002, she’d served as an independent documentary producer with shoots in India, Tibet, China, Japan, Israel, and Turkey.

Film Review: Ben Affleck in ‘The Accountant’

12 October 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Say what you will about Ben Affleck as Batman, or Jack Ryan, or any number of other action heroes that have seemed to be a stretch for the boy-next-door star, but Affleck is a terrific fit for “The Accountant,” in which he plays an autistic assassin. Though his choice in material is strong, the actor has always been a strange kind of thespian, one who seems so normal and non-actorly that most of his performances feel like watching one of your buddies up on screen, pretending to be someone he’s not. Here, Affleck, who formerly drew the short end of the stick playing the dumb townie to Matt Damon’s math savant, finally gets to embody the numbers whiz, and also to run around shooting some heavy-duty guns: It’s like Will Hunting and Jason Bourne rolled into one, brains and bullets. What’s not to love?

FrightFest 2016: The Love Witch review

30 August 2016 2:11 AM, PDT | CineVue | See recent CineVue news »

★★★★☆ Anna Biller's The Love Witch is a movie aesthetes of kitsch will embrace with open arms. Not that the film's distinct look is mere window-dressing or getting by on camp charm alone. A political work of true authorship if ever there was one, Biller not only directed, she wrote the screenplay, she's the film's editor, its set decorator, served as the costume and production designer, and also found time to compose the music. All of it a striking success.

Samantha Robinson (who looks like giallo icon Edwige Fenech) is Elaine, a narcissistic young witch. Her new aim in life is to cut out all the hard work in relationships and make them perfect, so she won't ever be rejected again. On the hunt for Mr. Right, her philosophical outlook is a melange of staunch feminism - she wants control (not an unfair demand) - but the methods are anti-feminist »

Susan Seidelman Looks Back: How ‘Smithereens’ Defined Her Career – Girl Talk

28 July 2016 7:30 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Girl Talk is a weekly look at women in film — past, present and future.

Susan Seidelman had just completed her first feature when the Cannes Film Festival came calling. In 1982, Seidelman wasn’t yet 30; she was only a few years out of film school and had only a single feature under her belt. But that didn’t matter to the world’s most well-regarded festival. They wanted Seidelman’s “Smithereens,” and the ensuing reception for the film — a punk-infused dark comedy about the bohemian underworld of New York City featuring a not entirely likable lead character — didn’t just change Seidelman’s life; it changed the way American independent cinema was received around the world.

Smithereens,” shot guerilla-style around the city with a cast and crew made up of many of the filmmaker’s Nyu classmates, marked a sea change for Cannes: It was the first American independent feature had »

Max Landis Penning Pepé Le Pew Movie, Alongside Slew of Other Projects

24 July 2016 1:59 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Noted professional-wrestling fan, screenwriter and director Max Landis is at Comic-Con, where he’s revealed one of many new projects he’s working on: a Pepé Le Pew movie being developed by Warner Bros. The animated film will follow the lecherous skunk of “Looney Tunes” fame, whom conventional wisdom would suggest is among the cartoon characters least suited to a feature-length revival in 2016. That’s probably part of Landis’ angle.

The team over at HitFix has discovered that none other than Mindy Kaling predicted the controversy that would erupt over a female-fronted reboot nearly five years ago when she included the idea in her 2011 memoir “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns).”

Mindy Kaling predicted the female-led ‘Ghostbusters’ 5 years ago — and the ensuing uproar

28 June 2016 9:05 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

The female cast-led Ghostbusters reboot has been making headlines and stirring debate since August 2014. But well before then, when Bill Murray was still expected to star in a Ghostbusters 3, Mindy Kaling fantasy-cast an estrogen-powered Ghostbusters. Icymi: The Office actress wrote a paragraph about a reimagined squad of the paranormal experts in her first book, 2011 memoir Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) in a chapter titled “Franchises I Would Like to Reboot.” Now, Mindy Kaling being rom-com-loving Mindy Kaling, she pitched this reboot as a tale of four otherwise-normal ladies in New York struggling to balance their ghostbusting duties with the pursuit of true love. She also readily acknowledged that everyone might not be on board with this idea: “I’m not an idiot,” she wrote. “I know the demographic for Ghostbusters is teenage boys, and I know they would kill themselves if two ghostbusters had a makeover at Sephora. »
