Dr. Michel joined NCMRR in June 2013, and has been at NIH since 1986. Before coming to NCMRR, she directed a program of clinical trials at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (2005-2013), and programs on CNS injury and repair at NINDS (1987-1998; 1999-2005). Dr. Michel spent a year at NCMRR (1998-1999) where she managed the program on career development and biological sciences. Dr. Michel’s research background is in the neuroscience of spinal cord regeneration, and her career at NIH has been in programs related to CNS repair and treatment for CNS disorders.
