Training in the NICHD Division of Intramural Research
The scientific researchers in the Division of Intramural Research (DIR) are committed to supporting training opportunities within the DIR program—as investigators and mentors. As part of their investigative focus, DIR researchers and support staff accord primary importance to the transmission of new information and skills in personal development to future generations of scientists.
The DIR includes more than 60 tenured and tenure-track investigators, organized into 14 affinity groups, and approximately 300 postbaccalaureate, clinical, and postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.
A host of dedicated offices and core facilities support the research and personal development of DIR investigators and trainees. To determine if the NICHD DIR is the right place for you, please use the following links to learn about the NICHD DIR Office of Education, explore our clinical training programs, and discover research topics in the NICHD DIR research programs.
Office of Education
The DIR Office of Education supports the academic, scientific, and personal development of intramural scientists, fellows, and students at all levels of training. Through a variety of seminars, workshops, and programs, the DIR Office of Education provides ample opportunities for trainees to expand their skill sets and explore career opportunities.
Clinical Training Programs
Five clinical training programs are offered through the NICHD DIR. To find each program's medical focus, program description, prerequisites, and training requirements, please see the list of NICHD DIR clinical training programs.
Research programs, laboratories, and investigators
The NICHD DIR is subdivided into topic-based affinity groups, each composed of laboratories that focus on specific questions in child health and human development. Find the Affinity Groups that fit your area of scientific interest and expertise, and locate contact information for NICHD intramural staff working in those laboratories.
