2 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The Strain” has been renewed for a fourth and final season, Variety has learned.

Currently in the midst of its third season, “The Strain” will return with Season 4 in summer 2017, marking the final set of episodes for the thriller from Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan and Carlton Cuse.

Ending the series after four seasons was a creative decision made by the producers, according to a statement released on Tuesday by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, presidents of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions, and another statement from Cuse, who said the original intent was for “The Strain” to last only three seasons.

“We sincerely thank Carlton Cuse, Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan and their creative team as well as the fantastic cast for three exciting seasons of ‘The Strain.’ Though we’re sad to see it go, we fully support the way in which they are crafting the fourth season’s dramatic conclusion,” said »

‘Will & Grace’ Cast Reunites for Modern-Day Episode on the Election

26 September 2016 12:33 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Updated: The cast of “Will & Grace” stirred up a Twitter firestorm with cryptic tweets that began surfacing over the weekend.

As it turns out, the stars of the NBC series were getting together for a new, nearly ten-minute modern-day episode regarding the 2016 election — released just hours before the big Hillary Clinton-Donald Trump debate on Monday.

In the episode, Will and Grace gather in the old apartment to talk Trump and Clinton, and are unsurprisingly joined by Jack and Karen, who have some opinions of their own.

The actors sent fans into a frenzy when star Debra Messing posted a group photo on Sunday, posing with her co-stars Eric McCormack, Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes. On Monday, speculation began to center on the sitcom stars filming a video in support of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, in the vein of the similar video released earlier this month by cast members from another vintage NBC series, “The West Wing »

‘Modern Family’ Will Feature Transgender Child Actor

23 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

This Wednesday’s “Modern Family” will include an openly transgender child actor.

In the upcoming episode — entitled “A Stereotypical Day” — parents Cameron “Cam” (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) permit their daughter Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) to have her transgender friend Tom over for a play-date. Both parents are filled with pride that they have done well in raising an accepting and open-minded child. But that pride quickly diminishes when Lily insults her friend, which they use as a teachable moment.

Lily’s playmate Tom will be played by 8-year-old transgender actor Jackson Millarker.

Ryan Case, who directed “A Stereotypical Day, posted this shot of Millarker on set. “This is Jackson Millarker,” Case announced. He’s 8 years old, from Atlanta, and just happens to be transgender. He plays Lily’s friend Tom in this week’s Modern Family and he’s wonderful. One of the many reasons I love being a part of this show.”

TV Review: ‘Westworld’

1 hour ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

A beautifully restored old train deposits visitors in Sweetwater, a manufactured Old West town and the central settlement within “Westworld,” the role-playing resort in which paying customers can bring their most elaborate fantasies to life, setting out on frontier adventures or staying in the saloons to whoop it up.

But like a train, this drama runs on predictable tracks, and no matter how luxurious the trappings of the journey, the destination is obvious from miles away. “Westworld” looks terrific; its directors have shot its Western locations to stunning effect. But its warmly saturated outdoor scenes and its surface slickness aren’t enough to mask the indecision, condescension, and hollowness at its core.

Sometimes a drama contains opposing ideas that give it an enticing tension, but the contradictory impulses of “Westworld” fight each other in ways that detract from the show’s fitful momentum and thematic ambitions. It has a few nebulous ideas about the nature of memory »

1 hour ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

She may not have had a lasso of truth at her disposal, but Lynda Carter, television’s Wonder Woman, is impressed with how Hillary Clinton fended off Donald Trump at Monday’s presidential debate.

“I thought she was brilliant,” Carter told Variety. “To me, the choice is clear.”

Carter, who travels frequently as a performer, said that people in foreign countries are upset by the prospect of a Trump presidency. During the campaign, Trump has been critical of the Nato alliance. Carter praised Clinton for using the debate to reassure foreign leaders that the United States would honor its treaties and agreements.

“The first thing you hear when you travel is people asking you, ‘has America lost its mind?'” Carter said. “I understand that people want change, but change just for change sake isn’t a good thing. You don’t hire the snake oil salesman to run your company. You »
