Editor-in-Chief Chris Jackson joined Railway Gazette in 1982 after studying Transport Planning & Business Administration at the University of Aston. Having held a variety of roles during the 1980s, Chris became Deputy Editor in 1991, and took over as Editor of Metro Report at the same time. He became Editor of Railway Gazette International in April 2006. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport and an Associate of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers.
Deputy Editor Robert Preston studied modern languages at Oxford, where he was a committee member of the Oxford University Railway Society. After a wide-ranging career including a teaching post in Paraguay, he became editorial assistant for Modern Railways and Jane's World Railways. He joined the Railway Gazette team in 1996 as Editorial Assistant on Rail Business Intelligence, where he has served as Editor since September 2000. He was named Assistant Editor for Railway Gazette International in September 1999 and became Deputy Editor in 2008.
Head of News & Online Andrew Grantham read Mineral Sciences at Cambridge, where he was President of the Cambridge University Railway Club. He joined Railway Gazette International as Editorial Assistant in November 2000, before becoming Industry Editor in April 2002 and News Editor in 2008. He assumed the role of Webmaster for www.railwaygazette.com in April 2006, and since April 2012 has been responsible for the co-ordination of news across all of the group’s publications.
Senior Editor Nick Kingsley joined Railway Gazette as News Reporter in September 2006 from the market analysis group Datamonitor, where he was Online News & Features Editor for energy and utilities content, including Energy Business Review Online. Nick read History at the University of York, graduating in 2002, after which he spent a year as a teaching assistant at a centre for children with learning difficulties in southwest France. He became Industry Editor of Railway Gazette International in January 2008, and was named Senior Editor in April 2012.
Assistant Editor Karol Zemek joined Railway Gazette in January 2013 to focus on the urban rail sector including news writing and the production of Metro Report International. He read Philosophy at Cambridge, and worked for the New Statesman and the law firm Chambers & Partners before joining The Economist in May 2008.
Consultant Editor Murray Hughes was Editor of Railway Gazette International from 1991 to April 2006. He is a languages specialist, who began his railway career with Swiss Federal Railways. After a brief spell as Foreign News Editor for Modern Railways, he joined Railway Gazette as News Editor in 1975 and became Deputy Editor three years later. Murray is also the author of Rail 300 which traces the history of high speed railway development.
