Summer 2017 Reporting Internships in Europe

The Wall Street Journal in Europeinternshipprogram is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students who intend to pursue a career in financial journalism. This is a paid summer internship , which lasts for a 10-week period. Thesummerinternshipstake place over June, July and August, though start dates can be flexible in certain circumstances.

Your application should include a cover letter, resume and six published samples of your work (written and/or multi-media, though not self-published). Applications should be submitted by 1 p.m. (Greenwich Mean Time)/8 a.m (Eastern Time), Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016 .

We are looking forinternsto work in our main bureaus across Europe. Our selection process is competitive and rigorous, and should be completed by the end of January/early February. We will only contact those applicants who pass initial screenings and who we wish to invite for interview. We will focus heavily on newsgathering, a demonstrable enthusiasm forbusiness, finance, politics and economicsreporting, and editing skills across print and online platforms.

Internswork closely with reporters and editors to deliver prompt, accurate reporting of news, features and multi-media material relevant to their beat.Internsare expected to generate their own story ideas appropriate for the section to which they are assigned, and follow the stories through to completion with supervision and guidance from an editor. They might also assist reporters and editors with story research and other assigned tasks.

Internsshould be self-starters who understand the needs of the Journal’s growing readership on various real-time, online and print platforms.

Dedication to high journalistic standards is vital. Candidates must be able to work independently and under the pressure of deadlines. Fluency in English and in one or more additional European language is a must.
