If you've been blocked as an open proxy, please see: Help:blocked.

The multiwiki MetaProject on open proxies seeks to identify, verify and block open proxies and anonymity network exit nodes. To prevent abuse or vandalism, only proxy checks by verified users will be accepted. All users are welcome to discuss on the talk page, report possible proxies, or request that a blocked IP be rechecked.

This IP is owned by Chevron Corporation, located in their San Ramon, California, office. It is reported as a confirmed open proxy. People operating the proxy have made personal attacks[1] and have violated the 1RR limitation set at the Abortion and mental health article. (All abortion topics have a 1RR limitation.) Since May 2015, other edits have been made by this proxy to disputed and controversial topics such as Conversion therapy (to convert gays) and Beginning of human personhood (a debate point in the abortion topic.) 203.122.8.2 - talk - edits - block - log - current blocks - Robtex/WHOIS - Google - HTTP

Reason: Suspicious edits alongside blocked undisclosed paid editor at Delhi Poetry Festival and Poets Corner Group. Reported as a confirmed proxy by http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip/216.177.129.188 and http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip/203.122.8.2Brianhe (talk) 06:46, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

whatismyipaddress.com never "indicates this is an open proxy": at the most it can indicate that it's a proxy. At present it doesn't even indicate that, whatever may have been at the time of this report. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 13:15, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

63.143.226.248 - talk - edits - block - log - current blocks - Robtex/WHOIS - Google - HTTP

Reason: A whois of this IP address indicates this is an open proxy.[2] Likely sock account of User:IHeardFromBob, who had previously used optonline servers editing the same article. TuvaluEditor3 (talk) 09:00, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

121.52.154.98 - talk - edits - block - log - current blocks - Robtex/WHOIS - Google - HTTP

Reason: Disruptive editing [3] following identical disruption from other US based IPs [4][5][6][7]; reported by whatismyipaddress.com as a confirmed proxy server in Pakistan [8], which is geo-unlikely for this particular topic. Brianhe (talk) 17:26, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Symbol merge vote.svg – A user has requested a proxy check. A proxy checker will shortly look into the case.

8.37.224.0/20 - talk - edits - block - log - current blocks - Robtex/WHOIS - Google - HTTP

Reason: We've blocked several of these IPs as open proxies already. A quick whois of this range shows that it belongs to some sort of mobile content accelerator. A search of the range contribs reveals several blocks and loads of problematic edits. I know that this IP range uses XFF headers but as of yet they are not part of the trusted list at the XFF project on meta. For now I think it might be wise to block the whole range, contact the owners of the range, and hope they have themselves added to the trusted list. It seams to me that every IP on this range is probably a proxy, and if we're going to block some of them, we might as well just block the range. Mww113 (talk) 03:57, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Reason: All are IPs which, all within the span of two hours, have been used to spam/harass helpers in #wikipedia-en-help on IRC. Given all the disparate IPs and speed with which the user behind them switches IPs open proxies/anonymising services are suspected. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 21:51, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

172.164.30.82 - talk - edits - block - log - current blocks - Robtex/WHOIS - Google - HTTP

These recently-used IPs are related to a long-term disruptive user who typically prefaces his talk page comments and edit summaries with "Joshua Raymond Hahn", and is possibly Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/The UPN Vandal Some of the older IPs he's used (circa 2014) are:

97.73.64.147 - talk - edits - block - log - current blocks - Robtex/WHOIS - Google - HTTP
97.73.64.153 - talk - edits - block - log - current blocks - Robtex/WHOIS - Google - HTTP
172.162.3.218 - talk - edits - block - log - current blocks - Robtex/WHOIS - Google - HTTP
97.73.64.154 - talk - edits - block - log - current blocks - Robtex/WHOIS - Google - HTTP - this one was blocked for 2 years, 7 months. Mama!

I dunno if those are worth checking. Just including to show some consistency with the newer ranges, 97.73.* and 172.16*.* Some of the newer IPs are flagged by whatismyipaddress.com as being suspected proxy servers, which I know doesn't mean that they are. What do you mean by "Suspicious edits"? I can find no record of any edits from this IP address on any Wikimedia project, and I can find no edits from any IP address in the given range on English Wikipedia (I have not checked other projects). There are four open ports, but I have not yet been able to confirm that it's an open proxy. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 10:29, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
@JamesBWatson: Please note that I am the same user as the 2607 IP. Sorry about that. The default message when reporting a proxy at this noticeboard is "suspicious edits". I apparently left the default text there and then described the proxy range afterwards. Anyway, this appears to be a high-usage proxy/web-hosting platform that is widely used. I've been testing out some proxy sites in trying to find open proxies that are currently not blocked. Cheers. 172.58.24.218 (talk) 00:55, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

Already blocked. @172.56.38.211: As you can see, reporting IPs with no suspicious editing patterns makes things slow and is overwhelming to proxy checkers. It is quite hard to clear the current high backlog. There are a LOT of open proxies that haven't edited Wikipedia. It is also counter productive, should we choose to check and block them all individually. To ease things a bit, I'd suggest you to henceforth report IPs that only have suspicious editing patterns. Please also consider not reporting IP ranges unless you see a pattern of editing. Regardless, I appreciate your work to help defend Wikipedia. Regards—UY Scuti Talk 16:21, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

Symbol declined.svg Declined to run a check No recent edits from the IP. I quote from my earlier statement, reporting IPs with no suspicious editing patterns makes things slow and is overwhelming to proxy checkers. Possible IP is an open proxy Although I wasn't able to connect, I'm pretty sure this warrants for a {{webhostblock}}. Regards—UY Scuti Talk 13:15, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

UNBLOCK: IP is no longer an open proxy, in fact, I don't even think it ever was an open proxy based on it's WHOIS credentials... 73.96.114.205 (talk) 23:01, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

Although it's closed now, I'm not convinced (Have a look at this list). However, the indef on this IP needs to be modified to something temporary. Regards—UY Scuti Talk 08:04, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
The IP address certainly has been in use as an open proxy, over a period extending from many years ago to this month. I don't know how anyone can possibly reach the conclusion that an IP address is unlikely ever to have hosted an open proxy "based on it's [sic] WHOIS credentials". As for replacing the indefinite block with a limited one, the reason for IP addresses not usually being blocked indefinitely is that their use may change, but considering the fact that this one's use has not changed in well over a decade, and that it is known to have hosted an open proxy at intervals covering the whole of that period, the likelihood that it's going to change within some arbitrary number of years that we choose is much lower than the likelihood that if the block ends it will still be hosting an open proxy.
