8 hours ago | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

The Fall movie season is upon us as last weekend brought the 2016 Summer movie season to a close, delivering a slight increase over 2015 with a calendar gross of nearly $4.5 billion led by Finding Dory's $482.9 million. Added to that, Summer 2016 concluded with only the second August to ever deliver calendar grosses eclipsing $1 billion, led by Suicide Squad's $286.4 million. All told, 2016 is currently showing a 4.9% increase over 2015, with a gross-to-date totaling $8.1 billion as of yesterday, compared to $7.7 billion at the same time last year. As for this weekend, it looks as if the top twelve should outperform the same weekend last year by a couple million with a pair of new releases doing the bulk of the heavy lifting. With the fall film festival season in full swing, one of this weekend's four new wide releases has already seen its share of festival love, that being Clint Eastwood's Sully, »

The Lady Chablis, who was featured in John Berendt’s 1994 book “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” and the 1997 film adaptation, died Thursday.

Club One, the Savannah Georgia venue where Chablis performed her revue, posted the following message on their Facebook page:

“The Lady Chablis, who stole hearts – and the spotlight – in ‘Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil,’ passed this morning surrounded by friends and family. In his best-selling novel, known in Savannah as ‘The Book,’ John Berendt wrote that when he first met The Lady Chablis, ‘she had both hands on her hips and a sassy half-smile on her face,’ a pose that would grace many stages … Chablis always wanted to give the audience, be it 15 or 1500, the best that she had. With her declining health, she regretted that her body wouldn’t allow her to give more.”

German helmer Lexi Alexander has come on board to direct “Crossface,” a biopic about late wresting champ Chris Benoit.

Producers are Alex A. Ginzburg and Tony Lee of Let It Play. Ram Getz and Matthew Randazzo V are exec producing.

Alexander will direct from a script by Jake Goldberger and Sarah Coulter. The project is based on Randazzo’s book “Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit & the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry.” The movie’s title is taken from Benoit’s trademark “crippler crossface” wrestling hold.

Hillary Clinton Uses Matt Lauer Debacle to Ramp Up Donations

17 minutes ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Hillary Clinton is trying to make some lemonade from NBC’s “Commander-in-Chief” lemon of a forum Wednesday night, using Matt Lauer’s universally-panned performance as a moderator to solicit donations. On Thursday, the Clinton campaign fired off an email calling out the “Today” show host for sitting quietly as Donald Trump claimed, once again, that he’s always opposed the Iraq War, despite evidence to the contrary. “Not only did the moderator, Matt Lauer, fail to fact-check Trump — he then kept the conversation moving,” the email read. “The worst part is, there’s nothing new about this happening.” Also Read: »

It’s been 15 years since the horrific terror attacks of September 11, 2001 — a tragedy that America will never forget, but Hollywood can’t quite decide how to remember. We have books and documentaries, and news footage that still feels too fresh. But we don’t have a definitive 9/11 movie — one feature film that’s held up as the most reliable source of cinematic art, accurately reflecting the scope of the attacks with emotional authenticity. The kind of film parents and teachers could show children to help them understand. “In a weird way, 9/11 is hands-off, where almost every other human tragedy is Ok, »
