Police statement on Tesco crash

Describing the incident in the Tesco car park, a police spokeswoman said:

“Police were called to the car park at Tesco Extra, on Norham Road in North Shields at 9.54am on Tuesday, September 27, following reports of a road traffic collision.

“Officers attended and found a car had collided with two other vehicles and then a trolley stand injuring the driver of the initial vehicle. The male driver was treated at the scene by ambulance staff and transported to hospital, his condition is described as critical.

“His female passenger was checked over by ambulance staff.

“Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call 101 and quote reference 279 27/09/16.”

Road closed after fuel tanker crash hospitalises two

A fuel tanker was involved in a four-vehicle smash in Hexham that left two people in hospital and the A69 shut after being covered in diesel.

“Police are currently on the scene of a collision on the A69 near Hexham which has closed both carriageways.

“At around 7.10am this morning police received a call of a four-vehicle collision just west of Hexham involving three vehicles and a HGV.

“None of those involved are thought to have serious or life-threatening injuries.

“Diversions are in place and officers remain on the scene. The collision occurred on the eastbound carriageway but because of fuel spillage the westbound carriageway was also closed.

“ Officers remain on the scene and will work to get the road re-opened as soon as possible.”

There’s expected to be an abnormal load (either very large or very slow, or both...) heading down the A19 soon.
