About Ashington

Ashington is a town in south east Northumberland and was once considered the world's largest coal-mining village. It has a rich coal mining history which dates back to the 1840s and is told at Woodhorn Museum, a former pit. Many inhabitants have a distinctive dialect known as Pitmatic. The town was home to Newcastle United legend Jack "Wor Jackie" Milburn.
