About Chester-le-Street

Chester-le-Street is a market town in County Durham. Its history can be traced back to Roman times when it was called Concangis. Its church hall is known for housing the Jarrow marchers on October 5 1936, when they stopped overnight after the first day of their march to London. The town’s Riverside Ground is home to Durham County Cricket Club.
