Mel Gibson is currently heading for the Venice Film Festival where he is set to unveil the much-anticipated Hacksaw Ridge, a film we’re really looking forward to seeing. The actor and filmmaker has been speaking with Greg Laurie at the SoCal Harvest (via The Playlist) about the plans for the his follow-up to The Passion of the Christ, The Resurrection.

“Of course, that is a huge undertaking,” Gibson said. “And you know, it’s not the ‘Passion 2.’ It’s called ‘The Resurrection.’ Of course, that’s a very big subject and it needs to be looked at because we don’t want to just do a simple rendering of it — you know, read what happened.”

“But in order to read it, experience and explore probably deeper meanings of what it’s about, it’s going to take some doing and Randall Wallace is up to the task,” Gibson added. »

Third season of Broadchurch will be able to stand on its own

31 August 2016 7:09 AM, PDT

The first series of Broadchurch took the UK by storm. Telling the story of an investigation into the death of an eleven year old boy, the programme really did grip the nation. Led by two formidable actors, Olivia Colman and David Tennant, the show’s second season was highly anticipated but failed to garner the same fever pitch frenzy as first time around. A third series is still in the works though and it seems that this time around the focus will shift and look into a different crime that will rock the small village of Broadchurch.

We spoke with actress Charlotte Beaumont (Chole Latimer) at this weekend’s Horror Channel Frightfest about what we can expect from the new series. Whilst hesitant at first, she did confirm that this time around the show will be a standalone story and also that it will be set later in time:

Sausage Party review: “Rude, but really rather unfulfilling”

31 August 2016 3:22 AM, PDT

Sausage Party review: Sometimes funny, though as a whole, an instantly disposable comedic effort that doesn’t quite cut the mustard.

Sausage Party review by Paul Heath, August 2016.

It takes some balls to put an R-rated animated comedy in production, so hats off to the makers of Sausage Party and indeed Sony Pictures for actually following through with the Seth Rogen-led movie, which finally arrives in UK cinemas this week.

Made for a rather paltry $19 million, the film is largely based in a suburban supermarket where its inhabitants, the food, eagerly await being selected to be taken through the checkouts and on to ‘The Great Beyond’.

Amongst them is Frank (Rogen), a sausage who is packed together with the likes of Jonah Hill‘s Carl and Michael Cera‘s deformed, though rather well-girth-ed Barry. They all hope for selection, though Frank also has his eyes on neighbouring shelve-inhabitant Brenda »

12 films we’re looking forward to seeing in September

31 August 2016 2:18 AM, PDT

It’s that time of the month again! yes, we’re about to enter a new month, so that mean’s a new month of movies. Making up for a rather lacklustre August, September is full of treats. Here are 12 films that we’re looking forward to.

Cafe Society – Released – September 2nd

Woody Allen’s film for 2016 opened Cannes back in May (where we were able to catch it), and it finally opens for audiences on September 2nd. Café Society will no doubt split critics, much like most of his work from the last decade or so, but we found the film to be a witty, very funny, gloriously constructed, visual feast, and a worthy addition to Allen’s glowing cannon.

Mark Hamill hints at ‘Star Wars Episode IX’ return

31 August 2016 12:40 AM, PDT

With Star Wars Episode VIII now officially in the can, thoughts are turning to Episode IX, which is due in, oh, around three and a half years. We know no plot details about Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII as yet, but it looks like Mark Hamill may have dropped a huge hint as to whether we’ll see Luke Skywalker in the ninth movie. He posted the following to is 1m-plus Twitter followers.

Haven’t seen my chin since May ’15, so #FarewellFacialFur & #ByeByeBeard (at least til #EpisodeIX) @popculturequest pic.twitter.com/gaScz1okk6

Mark Hamill (@HamillHimself) August 30, 2016

So, while we’re not sure if Skywalker is definitely in Episode IX, we’ll take this as a pretty decent nod that he very well might be. Before we start to think too much towards that movie, we’ll have both Episode VIII, the solo Han Solo movie and of course, Rogue »

Frightfest 2016: ‘Hostage To The Devil’ review

30 August 2016 12:47 AM, PDT

Hostage To The Devil review: Presents an atmosphere that is most definitely chilling, but then the rest of the documentary comes across as something disappointingly tame. Hostage to the Devil review

Marty Stalker’s well-shot documentary, Hostage to the Devil, takes its title from one of the books written by its central focus figure; Father Malachi Martin. Father Martin was an Irish Catholic priest and prolific writer on the Catholic Church. During the course of his life in the church, Father Martin was heavily involved in the preparations of the Second Vatican Council, before becoming disillusioned by the churches’ reforms. Asking to be released from certain Jesuit vows, Malachi moved to New York in the 1960’s and became a prolific writer f a total of 17 novels that were often very critical of the Catholic Church. Some of his most work focused on Satanism and exorcism. This is what predominantly takes »
