Jon Favreau to join Robert Downey Jr. in Spider-Man: Homecoming

just now | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

In addition to directing both Iron Man and Iron Man 2, Jon Favreau also made an appearance as Happy Hogan in each of the Iron Man flicks, so I guess you could say that where wherever Tony Stark goes, Happy Hogan follows...unless it's an Avengers or Captain America film, so I suppose it would be more accurate to say that wherever Tony Stark Goes, Happy Hogan occasionally follows. ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ Finds New Director in Trish Sie

3 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

With Elizabeth Banks no longer on board to direct “Pitch Perfect 3,” Universal has acted quickly to find a new helmer for its next installment in one of its most popular franchises: Trish Sie.

Variety first reported earlier this year that Banks would not return to direct the third installment. Banks explained at the Produced By conference that her parental duties drove her decision to leave the director’s chair.

Banks tweeted her support for the new director on Thursday afternoon. “#PitchPerfect has a new leader – so excited @bigbadtrish is directing #PP3!”

The studio recently moved back the release to Dec. 22, 2017, in order to have time to find Banks’ replacement, but it looks as though production should stay on schedule as it’s closed a deal with Sie.

World Renowned Chef Tackles Hunger in ‘Theater of Life’ Trailer (Exclusive)

37 minutes ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

What if food waste could feed the hungry?

That’s the question posed in the new trailer for “Theater of Life,” exclusive to Variety.

The documentary follows chef Massimo Bottura, whose Osteria Francescana was named world’s best restaurant in 2016 and featured on Netflix’s “Chef’s Table,” as he embarks on an ambitious project. But instead of elites and gourmands, he’s serving refugees, recovering drug addicts, former sex workers, the homeless and the hungry.

Bottura created the soup kitchen featured in the doc, dubbed the Refettorio Ambrosiano, during Expo Milano 2015. Hundreds of pounds of uneaten food from the expo were saved from the waste bins, and a rotating lineup of 60 top international chefs, including Mario Batali, Ferran Adria and Alain Ducasse, crafted gourmet meals nightly from the scraps.

The title, “Theater of Life,” comes from the name of the venue — an abandoned theater in the working class neighborhood of Greco in Milan. »

Mark Ruffalo has defended Matt Bomer’s casting as a transgender sex worker in the feature film “Anything,” following criticism by the transgender community.

Ruffalo is an executive producer on the recently wrapped project, in which Bomer portrays a transgender woman. Bomer and Ruffalo played lovers in HBO’s 2014 drama “The Normal Heart.”

“To the Trans community. I hear you,” he wrote on Wednesday. “It’s wrenching to you see you in this pain. I am glad we are having this conversation. It’s time.”

“In all honestly I suggested Matt for the role after the profound experience I had with him while making ‘The Normal Heart,'” he added.

Mel Gibson Reveals Details of a Possible ‘Passion of the Christ’ Sequel

53 minutes ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Mel Gibson has revealed new details about the possible “Passion of the Christ” sequel.

Gibson said during an interview with pastor Greg Laurie at the SoCal Harvest in Anaheim, Calif., last weekend that he’s interested in a second installment to “The Passion of the Christ,” which would focus solely on Christ’s resurrection.

“We’re talking about that,” he said. “Of course that’s a huge undertaking. It’s not ‘The Passion 2’ — its called ‘The Resurrection.'”

Gibson went on to say, “That’s a very big subject, and it needs to be looked at, because we don’t want to just do a simple rendering of it. I mean, we can all read what happened, but in order to really experience and explore probably deeper meanings of what it’s about, it’s gonna take some doing.”

Though the film and Gibson himself received backlash from numerous social justice groups, »

'Stranger Things' Season 2: A Guide to 1984 in Pop Culture

1 hour ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Just in case you've been living in the Upside Down, let me get you up to speed: Stranger Things Season 2 is officially happening. And as revealed by the show's unreasonably-attractive creators the Duffer Brothers, the new episodes will be set a year after the events of the first season, which would place the characters squarely in the latter days of 1984 (Season 1 took place between November and December of 1983). While that's not a whole lot later, it's still enough time for a massive number of pop-culture and consumer products to have been introduced in the interim, from film to TV to music to technology. So what, pray tell, will Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Nancy, Jonathan and Steve (but not Barb, obvs) be using, watching, wearing, reading and listening to in the new season that wouldn't have been available to them in the prior timeline because they didn't exist yet? Christopher Guest’s sense of the comically absurd returns in full force in the first trailer for Netflix’s “Mascots.”

Guest, whose directing credits include “A Mighty Wind,” “Waiting for Guffman,” “Best in Show” and “For Your Consideration,” set his most recent project during the ultra-competitive 8th World Mascot Association Championships. Mascots compete for prestigious Gold Fluffy.
