The Buzz: M. L. Stedman finds her debut novel translated for the screen by Blue Valentine wirter/director Derek Cianfrance; her material in his hands makes for the type of romantic drama that could find art house types in the same theater as devotees of, say, Nicholas Sparks. Both Alicia Vikander and Rachel Weisz are being touted for potential Oscar nominations for their respective performances.

Certificate R   -   Drama | Horror | Mystery | Sci-Fi | Thriller

Metascore: 50/100 (13 reviews)
A corporate risk-management consultant must decide whether or not to terminate an artificially created humanoid being.
Director:

The Buzz: One of the reasons this cast is stacked with serious supporting talent (Jennifer Jason Leigh, Paul Giamatti, Brian Cox, among others) has to be due to director Luke Scott's longtime association with Ridley Scott and his production company. Morgan's trailers have been white-hot on the internet, and Fox is going with a conservative wide release, a sign that they might have a breakout/sleeper hit on their hands.

Certificate R   -   Horror | Thriller

Metascore: 11/100 (4 reviews)
Five carnival workers are kidnapped and held hostage in an abandoned, Hell-like compound where they are forced to participate in a violent game, the goal of which is to survive twelve hours against a gang of sadistic clowns.

The Buzz: By now you know what to expect from a Rob Zombie movie, though he always finds a way to up the nihilism factor with every new project. It's an approach that makes it increasingly challenging to get his vision out to a wide theatrical audience, but, as he done with his music, Zombie's true savvy is knowing how to get his goods directly in the hands of his cult audience.

Certificate R   -   Mystery | Thriller

A psychologist who begins working with a young boy who has suffered a near-fatal fall finds himself drawn into a mystery that tests the boundaries of fantasy and reality.

The Buzz: Though Louis Drax represents a genre shift for horror-minded director Alexandre Aja, the most interesting bit of trivia here is the fact that talented actor Max Minghella assumes his deceased father Anthony's mantle by earning his first credit as the screenwriter for this thriller.

Certificate PG-13   -   Comedy

NO MANCHES FRIDA is the story of Zequi, a recently released bank robber who goes to recover stolen money buried by his ditzy accomplice before going to jail. They return to the site only to find that Frida Kahlo High has built a gymnasium over the loot. To get the money, he poses as a substitute teacher for a school that can't seem to keep any teachers around. Zequi comes in ready to lay down the law- but he quickly finds out that life on the inside may have been easier to deal with than a school full of wild and rebellious teenagers.

The Buzz: Omar Chaparro, a box-office hero in Mexico, looks to broaden his appeal in the U.S. with his latest comedy. Two of his most recent movies, Compadres and Pulling Strings have performed on par with noteworthy indie releases.

  -   Action | Crime | Drama

A gripping action thriller about a college girl Akira, who has grown up with the ideals of being self reliant. Her life spirals out of control when she becomes unwittingly involved in a crime involving four corrupt police officers.
Director:

The Buzz: Akira could come to represent a turning point for Indian cinema, as Sonakshi Sinha gets the chance to play the kind of female character rarely seen by Indian audiences. Aside from offering up an action heroine, director A.R. Murugadoss boldly addresses the uptick in acid attacks on women in this story of a college student facing off against corrupt cops.

Certificate PG-13   -   Comedy | Fantasy | Horror | Thriller

Metascore: 27/100 (11 reviews)
Two teenage yoga enthusiasts team up with a legendary man-hunter to battle with an ancient evil presence that is threatening their major party plans.

The Buzz: Kevin Smith's second movie in his planned True North Trilogy is set in the same world as Tusk but its a completely different reality than the one that transformed poor Justin Long into a walrus. Though Tusk was wickedly funny, the body horror absolutely kept audiences at bay, so it will be interesting to see if a toned-down horror comedy that's centered on Eh-2-Zed clerks Colleen Collette and Colleen McKenzie will draw a bigger crowd than its predecessor.

Certificate R   -   Comedy | Drama

Frank and Casper's friendship is put to a test, when Casper decides to leave Denmark to pursue a solo career in Los Angeles. Determined to win his best friend back Frank chooses to follow Casper ensuring an eventful trip.
Director:

The Buzz: Cool to see Casper and Frank's new adventure make its way to U.S. theaters since the Danish duo has eked out a cult audience ever since their TV show found its way to these shores. Longtime fans should know that Mia, who is now married to Frank and a mother of two, is still in the picture though, sadly, to a lesser degree than ever before.

The Buzz: Audiences seem to be divided as to whether filmmaker Elizabeth Wood has created a work that effectively creates a conversation about youth culture, and we have to think that's exactly that reason the Sundance selection earned a theatrical deal.

  -   Comedy | Drama

Metascore: 41/100 (6 reviews)
A jazz pianist makes a discovery days before the death of his wife that causes him to believe his sixty-five year marriage was a lie. He embarks on an exploration of his own past that brings him face to face with a menagerie of characters from a bygone era.

The Buzz: Jerry Lewis's return to the big screen arrives with his declaration that director Daniel Noah's script was the best thing he'd read in decades, and it seems that Lewis imbues Max with genuine bitterness and pain. The polite downside: Most reviewers say he's the only reason to consider giving the movie a look.
