Jon Favreau to join Robert Downey Jr. in Spider-Man: Homecoming

In addition to directing both Iron Man and Iron Man 2, Jon Favreau also made an appearance as Happy Hogan in each of the Iron Man flicks, so I guess you could say that where wherever Tony Stark goes, Happy Hogan follows...unless it's an Avengers or Captain America film, so I suppose it would be more accurate to say that wherever Tony Stark Goes, Happy Hogan occasionally follows. ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ Finds New Director in Trish Sie

6 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

With Elizabeth Banks no longer on board to direct “Pitch Perfect 3,” Universal has acted quickly to find a new helmer for its next installment in one of its most popular franchises: Trish Sie.

Variety first reported earlier this year that Banks would not return to direct the third installment. Banks explained at the Produced By conference that her parental duties drove her decision to leave the director’s chair.

Banks tweeted her support for the new director on Thursday afternoon. “#PitchPerfect has a new leader – so excited @bigbadtrish is directing #PP3!”

The studio recently moved back the release to Dec. 22, 2017, in order to have time to find Banks’ replacement, but it looks as though production should stay on schedule as it’s closed a deal with Sie.

Why Drake’s ‘One Dance’ Doesn’t Feel Like the Song of the Summer

35 minutes ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

With only a few days left in the summer of 2016, Drake‘s chart-topping “One Dance” seems destined to win the race for the Song of the Summer title, but does it really deserve it? “One Dance” is undoubtedly the most popular new tune of the last few months, but the “Song of the Summer” title calls to mind a song that will be remembered for its absolute cultural domination and singular inescapability. That’s a bar “One Dance” can’t clear. The success of “One Dance” is undeniable — the second single from Drake‘s album “Views” topped the Billboard Hot »

Venice Film Review: ‘The Blind Christ’

46 minutes ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

A spiritually-guided man in Chile’s impoverished north crosses the desert thinking he can perform a miracle and heal an injured friend in Christopher Murray’s belabored tone poem, “The Blind Christ.” The director succeeds in conveying the sense of desiccated communities forgotten by the government turning to religion as the last resort of those who’ve lost all other hope, yet while striving for something magisterial, the film is too often dulled by over-studied lifelessness. Attractively though monochromatically shot, “Blind Christ” means to be a sympathetic reflection on the desire for faith, but its calculated solemnity generally pushes away an empathic response. Festivals fond of elegiac South American films that use non-professional indigenous people as actors (practically a genre unto their own) will ensure “Blind” is seen.

Murray’s co-directed debut “Manuel de Ribera” was also a moral drama with a fable-like overlay, though this, his first solo effort making a feature, »

Who’s Who In the ‘Narcos’ Rogues Gallery (Photos)

Venice Film Review: ‘Hounds of Love’

1 hour ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

An outwardly normal suburban Perth couple who abduct, torture, and murder schoolgirls must face their funny games in debuting writer-director Ben Young’s genre-bending powerhouse thriller “Hounds of Love.” Brave audiences will be rewarded, if that’s the word, with a harrowing ride that morphs from discrete horror to probing character study and back again in a vivid yet admirably restrained 108 minutes. Look for strong word-of-mouth — both for and against — to propel this beyond festivals to specialized play.

It’s Christmastime 1987 in the sun-baked western Australian city as Evelyn and John White (Emma Booth, Stephen Curry) brutalize and kill a teenager in a discretely photographed sequence that reveals little blood but a chilling routine. They cruise the neighborhood, offer the victim a ride, then chain her in the guest room of their nondescript tract house. When they’re finished, John buries the body in a nearby wood while Evelyn enjoys a mid-afternoon nap. »

Philippines President Against Steve Harvey Hosting 2016 Miss Universe Pageant

1 hour ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte does not want Steve Harvey to repeat as the Miss Universe host following an embarrassing on-air blunder last year where he named the incorrect winner.

Harvey misread his cue card at the end of the Miss Universe 2015 pageant, announcing Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez as the winner and Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach as first runner-up. Gutiérrez was crowned before Harvey realized his mistake — that it was actually Wurtzbach who won. It was Harvey’s first time hosting the pageant.

Even though his country’s delegate won, President Duterte does not want a repeat of last year. The Miss Universe 2016 pageant will be held in Manila, Philippines, in January.

Tourism secretary Wanda Teo relayed Duterte’s concerns during a press conference on Thursday, CNN Philippines reported.

“He cannot host. I am going to talk to the Miss Universe that he cannot host so that is my problem,” Duterte »

SAG-aftra Unionizes Chicago Watchdog Better Government Association

SAG-aftra has unionized employees at the watchdog Better Government Association in Chicago with the employees voting unanimously to join the performer’s union.

It’s a move that expands SAG-aftra’s jurisdiction beyond the traditional performer categories. SAG-aftra, which has about 160,000 members, said the successful vote paves the way for Bga employees to negotiate a first contract.

“We’re glad to join the SAG-aftra family, especially going into the Labor Day holiday,” Bga staff said in a statement. “With this move we see a bright future for the Bga rooted in independent and responsible journalism and policy work. We look forward to beginning good-faith negotiations at the earliest appropriate time — we hope management feels the same.”

The election was conducted by Region 13 of the National Labor Relations Board at the Bga office.

Jon Favreau will reportedly reprise his ‘Iron Man’ role in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

1 hour ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Jon Favreau is making his return to Marvel. He’ll reprise his role as Happy Hogan, Tony Stark’s friend and bodyguard, in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Variety reported Thursday. In typical fashion, Marvel’s not confirming the casting quite yet. Favreau of course directed the film that started it all for the McU, Iron Man— which was just about to start filming 10 years ago, if you can believe it — and also appeared onscreen in all three Iron Man movies as Harold “Happy” Hogan. He was nowhere to be seen in the other Marvel movies where Tony Stark showed up, so Spider-Man: Homecoming will mark Favreau’s first acting role in an McU movie where his buddy Robert Downey Jr. isn’t the lead. Downey Jr. may have a decent-sized role in Homecoming though: Tony’s moments with Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War definitely left audiences wanting more of that tech-savvy duo. »

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Son Joseph Baena Re-Creates Iconic ‘Terminator 2’ Scene (Video)

The world didn’t even know that Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s son Joseph Baena existed until 2011, when news broke of the bodybuilder-turned-actor-turned-California-governor’s affair with former housekeeper Mildred Baena, which ultimately broke up Schwarzenegger’s 25-year marriage to Maria Shriver. Now 18, Joseph Baena is the spitting image of his famous father — right down to the chiseled jaw, rock-hard muscles and piercing gaze. It appears that he also inherited Arnie’s acting ambitions, as Baena has now re-created one of Schwarzenegger’s most iconic scenes from “Terminator 2” in a YouTube video directed by his friend, aspiring filmmaker Ben Hess.
