Tyler Perry Based His Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 Character On An Unexpected Person

3 June 2016 11:43 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Actors often like to base their performances on real-life individuals. Heath Ledger.s Joker was partly inspired by Tom Waits, Michael Fassbender.s Prometheus portrayal was based on Peter O.Toole in Lawrence Of Arabia, and now Tyler Perry has admitted that his turn as Baxter Stockman in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows was influenced by none other than the national treasure that is Dr. Neil deGrasse TysonTyler Perry made this revelation while talking to Fandango about his villainous role in the blockbuster, admitting that while Neil deGrasse Tyson was used as a starting off point for his work, he soon deviated because the renowned scientist is just too nice. Tyler Perry explained: He was a bit of my muse, I will tell you that much. [Tyson] is nowhere near this insane, diabolical madman I was doing, but he was definitely my muse as far as »

2 June 2016 5:51 PM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Dreamy Brit Sam Claflin is more than enough eye candy to entice you to see this week's romantic drama Me Before You, but should you buy a ticket to this Summer's sobfest, there is an additional sexy-man bonus. In the adaptation of Jojo Moyes' tear-jerking novel, Will (Claflin) is a quadriplegic man bound to a wheelchair when Lou (Emilia Clarke) is hired to care for him full-time. Of course, the nature of his injuries require more than just the energetic Lou. Enter Nathan, the capable and sensitive nurse played by Stephen Peacocke. If you sit up in the theater this weekend wondering who that is, we have answers. Who Is This Beautiful Man? Nathan is played by Stephen Peacocke, a 34-year-old Australian actor. This is one of his first big stateside films, so you probably haven't seen a lot of him, but if you do recognize him, we have a few hunches from where. »

Get A Glimpse At An Edgier Joker in Suicide Squad Prequel Comic

2 June 2016 2:21 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

A new prequel comic has been released tied to the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. It features a glimpse at Harley Quinn and The Joker, in their younger years, as they seem to have taken hostage a rival of the Joker's who is encroaching on Mista J's territory. This also gives us an even more detailed look at this incarnation of the Joker, as he seems to be more of a gangster, and less of a psychotic clown, which isn't exactly a bad thing like some may think it is. For years the Joker was mainly created to be the white to Batman's black.

Batman was a man who had been pushed to his limit, but fought hard to not go over it. Joker was a man who hit his limit, and not only jumped over it, but he ran from it too. Thus far in the Dceu, Batman is a »

The Dark Knight concept art reveals different designs for The Joker and Two Face

2 June 2016 5:51 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Earlier we brought you concept art from Jeffrey Henderson who worked with Sam Raimi on the failed Spider-Man 4, but this wasn’t his only comic book movie venture.

While working on 30 Days of Night, Henderson provided some designs for The Joker and Two Face to Christoper Nolan’s The Dark Knight, which are very different to the final versions.

Check them out below:

These more comic book accurate looks are very different to the ‘real world’ designs Nolan eventually used for Heath Ledger’s Joker and Aaron Eckhart’s Two Face. Which do you think are better?

22 May 2016 3:52 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Though DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. have had a little bit of a rocky start to their live action extended universe films, with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice under whelming fans and critics alike and underperforming at the box office, they are miles ahead of the competition with their animated features. For years, DC's animated films have been an excellent representation of their source material and have told stories fans have wanted to see for years, and their latest feature, Batman: The Killing Joke, is taking on one of the most classic comic stories of all time. Not to mention that the film, which will be coming out on Blu Ray this August, will be rated R.

DC and Warner Bros. have just released an official synopsis for the film, as well as a brand new image of Barbara Gordon's Batgirl, who will be voiced by Tara Strong in The Killing Joke. »

Mfr Explores The Dceu's Road To Ruin: Column #3

20 May 2016 12:20 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Welcome back to a special ongoing look at Warner Bros. and how it's handled its DC Comics properties. It's going to be a weekly, ongoing miniseries here at Lrm. This entry will look at Batman Begins, Superman Returns, Green Lantern, and more. We'll explore all of the interesting parallels and forks in the road that brought us to where the Dceu is today.

Last week, we left off in 2004. Warner Bros. was preparing to relaunch its two DC Comics icons Superman and Batman, after flirting with jumping straight to a Batman Versus Superman movie. They backpedalled on that idea and, instead, poured all of their resources into re-establishing the characters as solo entities first, with the hope that a team-up or clash would eventually be in the cards.

The first of these new films would be Batman Begins. Christopher Nolan, fresh off of critical successes with a few smaller films, »

Why that 'Exorcist' TV series feels like such a betrayal

20 May 2016 9:41 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

When the first promo dropped for Fox's TV series adaptation of The Exorcist, I and many other horror fans were left aghast at what appeared to be a completely wrong-headed utilization of that classic title. At the time I described the show as a "cynical cash grab," and I'll stand by that assessment until those involved can prove me wrong. When you're brazen enough to exploit a title as beloved as The Exorcist, the burden of proof is on you to prove that you're not just slapping it onto a weak imitation of the original. On this week's episode of Nightmare Fuel, I talk to Daily Dead Managing Editor and horror guru Heather Wixson about all things Exorcist (while we're at it, doesn't Geena Davis deserve better?), in addition to The X-Files (is it time for Chris Carter to step aside from his own series?) and the controversy over Fox's »

Robbie To Hark Back To Ledger's Joker As Harley Quinn In DC's 'Suicide Squad'

16 May 2016 9:11 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

"...some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn."

Alfred Pennyworth, "The Dark Knight"

The above quote was delivered by Michael Caine, as Alfred, about The Joker in The Dark Knight. In the 2008 film, Heath Ledger's Joker was referred to as an agent of anarchy. He existed merely to throw the system into chaos and then laugh merrily as everyone else tries to pick up the pieces. His ambitions weren't grandiose. He wasn't trying to "take over the world" or anything like that. All he wanted was to push the kinds of buttons that would make everyone question what it is they think they know about the world.

In this year's Suicide Squad, it looks like writer-director David Ayer and actress Margot Robbie have something similar in mind for Harley Quinn. »

Cannes Film Review: ‘Loving’

16 May 2016 2:37 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

“The Crime of Being Married.” So read the headline that accompanied photos of Richard Loving, a Southern “white trash” construction worker, and his African-American wife Mildred in the pages of Life magazine. One day — maybe today — audiences will sit down to watch Jeff Nichols’ “Loving,” which goes nearly the entire first reel before explaining that mixed-race marriages were illegal in the then-segregated Virginia of 1958, and they’ll be surprised to learn what the crime in question was, having already observed and accepted the on-screen couple without the blinders of racial prejudice.

It is from this position of relative enlightenment that Nichols approaches the true story of “the Loving couple,” a film of utmost sensitivity, but not nearly enough outrage, secure in its position vis-à-vis the bigotry that dominated before America’s Civil Rights revolution. Like the plaintiffs in the Supreme Court case that identified marriage as an inherent human right, »

Adaptation vs. Reinterpretation: The Two Approaches to Making Comic Book Films

14 May 2016 6:44 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Comic book-inspired films are wildly popular right now. Disney, Fox and Warner Bros are the leaders in bringing Marvel and DC super heroes to the big screen. There are two techniques for doing this…Adaptations and Reinterpretations. Which company uses which method? Cinelinx takes a look at these two techniques.

“Adaptation” means transferring a literary source to a new medium, like stage, film or television.

“Reinterpretation” means to recreate or rethink a work of art as a new conception.

Looking at these two definitions, you can make the argument that Disney does adaptations, while Fox prefers reinterpretation, and DC is somewhere in between. Let’s look at the two methods of bringing the heroes of Marvel and DC Comics to the screen to see if this argument holds up.

We’ll start with the Disney superhero films: Marvel makes adaptations. Their films essentially lift the characters off the page and, »

‘Captain America: Civil War’ Review #2

12 May 2016 11:56 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Stars: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Emily VanCamp, Tom Holland, Daniel Brühl | Written by Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely | Directed by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo

It is rather insane that we are already eight years in and thirteen movies deep into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  By this time most franchises are majorly rebooting in an attempt to save themselves from cinematic obscurity. To Marvel’s credit they have found a way to not only stay relevant but rule the blockbuster scene during this time. Their formula, while by no means perfect, has successfully brought the world of the comics to the silver screen.

However, that success was on a downward trend. Avengers: Age of Ultron felt like a movie that was too big for its own good and Ant-Man was solid but not spectacular. »

5 Things Jared Leto Could Bring To His Role As The Joker In Suicide Squad

11 May 2016 4:41 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Like you didn’t know already, Jared Leto has slipped into The Joker’s shoes for the upcoming DC villain piece Suicide Squad. His role has had about thirty to forty seconds of screen time in the form of teaser trailers so far, but it’s already been subject to considerable scrutiny and analysis from all corners of the globe.

There’s been a vociferous reaction to Leto playing Batman’s biggest and most infamous foe ever since news of the cast bill filtered through the comic book community, which should perhaps come as no real surprise. Comic books have been producing some of the most colourful and captivating fictional characters for years, and when one as notable as The Joker is brought to life on the big screen, there’re always going to be questions raised as to whether the star in question has the ability to pull off a worthy portrayal. »

Is Jared Leto the right choice to play the Vampire Lestat?

6 May 2016 12:56 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Though no official confirmation has come down, Jared Leto has seemingly been cast as the new Lestat in Fault in Our Stars writer-director Josh Boone's Interview with the Vampire re-adaptation (at least according to an Instagram post by Boone earlier this week), leading to both outrage and excitement from Leto detractors and fans, respectively.  On this week's episode of HitFix's horror chat series Nightmare Fuel, Drew McWeeny (who does not appear onscreen due to some unfortunate technical difficulties) and I discuss Leto's seeming involvement in the film, speculate on what he would bring to the role and talk about why the Oscar-winning actor is such a divisive figure in general. (Note: The Leto/Lestat discussion begins at 7:15 in.) Also on tap: a discussion of that Craft sequel/remake that HitFix made news with earlier this week as well as Universal's big-budget Monster reboots, which both Drew and I harbor serious reservations about. »

Christopher Nolan and his impact on comic book movies

Comic book movies are getting darker and grittier in some quarters. That's down to Christopher Nolan, right? Well, not quite...

If someone were to say the words 'Nolanisation of comic book movies' to you, it might conjur up images incredibly serious, laughter-free movies with a dark visual palette. The word 'gritty' would be used. Furthermore, Christopher Nolan has arguably had as big an impact on comic book movies as anyone over the last decade, and many are keen to follow in his path. Thus, goes the theory, comic book movies - and blockbusters in general - are favouring dark and gritty.

And yet, on rewatching The Dark Knight trilogy, it becomes immediately apparent that Christopher Nolan's own work doesn't entirely align with this.

My own personal frame of reference is, as ever, Doctor Who. In the 1980s, two stories – Earthshock and The Caves Of Androzani – became »
