VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 COVER STORY

In the 13 years since creating the 3D fighting genre, Sega's acclaimed Virtua Fighter series has been peerless, pushing both technology and gaming forward with its cutting-edge graphics and near-flawless game-mechanics. Sega's fighter has always faced stiff challenges from every corner, but as home-console technology caught up to (and eventually surpassed) the performance of its arcade hardware, Virtua Fighter's foothold in the genre stumbled, especially around the time of VF3 on the Dreamcast, which was soon overshadowed by both Soul Calibur and the PS2. The paradigm shifted, though, with the release of the amazing one-two punch of VF4 and VF4 Evolution on PS2, which put the series' best efforts on a truly mass-market platform for the first time, resulting in big success. Now, Sega looks to up the ante significantly with the PS3 release of Virtua Fighter 5, and we're here all week to show you why this game is our weapon of choice.
