“Roseanne” Revival in the Works

1 May 2017 9:01 AM, PDT | Women and Hollywood | See recent Women and Hollywood news »

Roseanne”: ABC

More “Roseanne” could be on the way. A revival of the beloved ABC sitcom toplined by Roseanne Barr is currently being shopped to networks, The Hollywood Reporter writes. Creator/star Barr has already signed on, as have original stars John Goodman and Sara Gilbert.

According to the source, Gilbert is the driving force behind the eight-episode revival. The “Talk” co-host is set to exec produce alongside original series producers Barr, Tom Werner, and Bruce Helford.

Roseanne,” which ran for nine seasons from 1988 to 1997, is one of the few television series that depicts a working-class household — and from a female perspective, which is even more unusual. The sitcom followed the everyday lives of Roseanne Conner (Barr), her husband (Goodman), sister (Laurie Metcalf), and children (Gilbert, Alicia Goranson, and Michael Fishman).

Goodman’s return is surprising since the 1997 finale of “Roseanne” revealed that his character, Dan, was dead. He had died of a heart attack offscreen and as THR writes, “his appearances in the ninth and final season had been a product of the writings of the Roseanne character.” But it seems Barr has already worked out how Dan can appear in future episodes. In a 2009 blog post, she wrote about where she thinks the Conners are now. Barr believes Dan eventually returned to Roseanne after “faking his death.”

Since “Roseanne” ended, Barr has appeared in guest roles on shows like “The Office,” “Portlandia,” and “Cristela.” She also starred in the 2011 Lifetime reality series “Roseanne’s Nuts” and was the subject of the 2016 documentary “Roseanne for President!”

Gilbert has been a co-host of the daytime show “The Talk” on CBS since 2010. She serves as exec producer as well. Among her recent acting credits are “Supergirl,” “The Comeback,” and “The Big Bang Theory.”

When you consider how successful the show Roseanne was and the amount of TV revivals going on right now it’s not hard to understand why it’s being brought back to television.  From a financial perspective it makes perfect sense.   From Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Sarah Gilbert, Laurie Metcalfe and everyone else it makes sense too.  They’ll have solid work again, be in the spotlight again and have a chance to better their careers. John Goodman Goodman and Sarah Gilbert also recently staged a mini-Roseanne revival in a video filmed during Goodman’s visit to CBS’ The Talk, which Gilbert created, co-hosts and

Roseanne returning to TV screens with eight-episode revival

29 April 2017 9:30 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Hit sitcom Roseanne is set for a return to the small screen, with Deadline reporting that Roseanne Barr, John Goodman and Sara Gilbert have signed on for an eight-episode revival, with the likes of Laurie Metcalf and Johnny Galecki also in talks to return.

The revival is being executive produced by Barr, Tom Werner and Bruce Helford, and is currently out in the marketplace. As you’d expect given the enormous popularity of the original series, multiple networks are bidding for the new series, although original network ABC is considered the sentimental choice.

Revolving around the Conners, a typical working class American family, Roseanne ran on ABC between 1988 and 1997, airing 222 episodes across 9 seasons. It was enormously successful, becoming the most watched show in the U.S. in 1989 and 1990, and won four Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes.

‘Roseanne’ Reboot Challenge: How to Explain John Goodman’s Return (Video)

(Spoiler warning: Don’t read on if, for some reason, you still haven’t seen the series finale of the original “Roseanne” and still don’t want to know the details.) The news that the original cast and producers of “Roseanne” wanted to revive the show was a surprise, but not a bigger surprise than the fact that John Goodman would be involved. That’s because in the 1997 series finale of the original “Roseanne,” which ran for nine seasons on ABC, it was revealed that Goodman’s character, Dan Conner, had died of a heart attack. Well, it’s a bit more complicated than that. »

Fanatic Feed: Sweet/Vicious Canceled, Roseanne Returns and a Mystery Host

28 April 2017 3:16 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

There's good news, bad news and weird news today out of Hollywood.

Let's start with the bad news because it's hard to fathom why more wasn't done to lure viewers to this now-canceled series.

In case you didn't know, Sweet/Vicious aired on MTV and followed the story of two "vigilantes," Jules and Ophelia, who fought back against injustice on their college campus.

A specific type of injustice. The type that happens to girls and isn't always followed up by campus authorities because the boys are excellent sportsmen, the girls were wearing the wrong outfits or it might be too hard to prove.

You know what I'm talking about. Sexual assault. That dirty little secret that gets swept under the rug far too often and for too many different reasons.

Jules and Ophelia made it their mission to get justice for those who suffered, and they weren't beyond suffering themselves. »

Roseanne Revival In The Works

Deadline is reporting that the sitcom classic, Roseanne, is heading towards a revival. Set as an eight episode limited series, the original producers on the show are on board along with the core of the original cast. The show centered around the lower middle class Conner family as they fought to pay bills, fought with friends and family, and fought with each other as well. A number of shows have seen short term come backs, such as The X-Files, Will and Grace, and 24. John Goodman spoke about the possibility of the revival on the CBS show The Talk.

“Oh, hell yes … if we could get everyone together,” he told co-host Julie Chen. “The Big R [Barr] and I did a pilot about five years ago that didn’t go anywhere … but we were very happy to work together.”

Sara Gilbert also spoke on the possibility of a revival. While supportive, she »

‘Roseanne’ Getting A Limited Series Revival, John Goodman On Board Despite His Character Being Dead

28 April 2017 1:05 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

TV’s mania for revivals doesn’t seem to be stunted much by the fact that just as many fail as succeed. Already this year, we’ve seen “24: Legacy” and the “Prison Break” resurrection underperform in the ratings, and shows like “Xena: Warrior Princess” and “Coach” have stalled before even making it to screens. But frustratingly, every so often, one proves a hit, whether it’s “The X-Files” or “Fuller House,” and so we’re doomed to have networks continue to attempt this for, probably, as long as they still exist.
