Coming this October to HBO, the sci-fi drama, inspired by the 1973 Michael Crichton motion picture of the same name, is a one-hour series that investigates the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin, exploring a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.

In anticipation of its debut, the cable network released a slew of images which feature its star-studded cast: Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright and many more.

Emmy Predictions 2016: ‘Game of Thrones’ Dominates Spectacular TV VFX

19 August 2016 12:39 PM, PDT

HBO’s “Game of Thrones” is once again the VFX frontrunner.  The episode “Battle of the Bastards” created a spectacular crescendo for Season 6, bringing to a head the heated feud between Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) and his army of Wildlings, and the Boltons, led by nemesis Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon).

Led by production VFX supervisor Joseph Bauer and the team at Australia-based Iloura, they used Akira Kurosawa’s “Ran” and other classic battle movies for inspiration. Historical reference informed army formation and tactics, and the body pile concept came from both Roman and Civil War accounts.  The Pov stayed with Snow to relentlessly keep us inside the action.

Iloura raised its photoreal game with 400 audacious shots featuring 3,000-strong armies, a hybrid of real and CG people and animals and massive crowd simulations, as well as hundreds of flying body parts, blood, weapons, mud, smoke, fire and mist.

‘Channel Zero’ Trailer: Syfy’s Creepypasta Anthology Series Reveals a Seriously Creepy Tooth Fairy

19 August 2016 9:24 AM, PDT

The tagline “Nightmares come from somewhere” might not sound all that scary by itself, but paired with the extremely creepy teaser for the Syfy anthology series “Channel Zero,” it’s enough to give you a serious fright. The inaugural season of the show, “Channel Zero: Candle Cove,” is a six-part series based on Kris Straub’s short story from Creepypasta, and stars Paul Schneider and Fiona Shaw (“Harry Potter”).

The teaser reveals what can only be described as the scariest manifestation ever of a monstrous tooth ferry, which appears to “eat” several teeth off the hand of a young boy. Bloody Disgusting describes the show as centering “on one man’s obsessive recollection of a mysterious children’s television program from the 1980s – and his ever-growing, dreadful suspicions about the role it might have played in a series of nightmarish and deadly events from his childhood.”

Amazon Pilot Reviews: ‘The Tick,’ Jill Soloway’s ‘I Love Dick’ & ‘Jean-Claude Van Johnson,’ Ranked

19 August 2016 8:19 AM, PDT

Jean-Claude Van Johnson

“’Timecop’ is like ‘Looper’ with Bruce Willis, but a million times better,” is just one of the gems spoken in “Jean-Claude Van Johnson” which is as gloriously ridiculous as its title.

What the Amazon pilot lacks in plot — action star Jean-Claude Van Damme comes out of retirement to act as a private contractor specializing in kicking ass and doing the splits — it makes up for with indiscriminate jabs at everything and anyone, including its star, Hollywood, pretentious foodies and even America’s Undulating Beefcake, Channing Tatum. A surprising appearance by Phylicia Rashad, who gamely plays Jean-Claude’s agent, is a comic revelation. She delivers the most absurd movie pitches with such enthusiasm that we’re ready to sign up for the “P.F. Chang’s” biopic ourselves.

The only real disappointment is the lackluster treatment of Jean-Claude’s love interest Vanessa (Kat Foster), who isn’t given much to work with story-wise. »

‘Difficult People’: Watch a Hilarious Compilation of the Best Pet Names Arthur Gives Julie

19 August 2016 8:18 AM, PDT

Think back to some of the best nicknames that your friends, family or significant other has given you. Those names usually stick around for a couple of years, if not forever, right? Well in the Hulu comedy “Difficult People,” Julie’s (Julie Klausner) boyfriend, Arthur (James Urbaniak), has a slew of creative pet names that he gives her throughout the first two seasons.

The randomness of the nicknames are just too fun not to mention, and that’s why the folks at Hulu created a fun compilation video of a handful of silly things Arthur has called Julie in the past episodes. Included in the batch are names like “whiffle bat,” “water bug,” “mouse pad,” “thin mint” and the most-used “noodles.” It doesn’t stop there, there’s also “spinach,” “spray cheese” and my favorite, “lava lamp.” Check them all out in the hilarious clip below.
