Glen Rock summer swim team ties for third in Lake League

The Glen Rock summer swim team tied with Radburn (Fair Lawn) for third place in the Lake League championship meet, which Glen Rock hosted on July 18. Fair Lawn outlasted Ridgewood in the battle for the title, 257-235, while Glen Rock and Radburn each scored 187 points. Wyckoff had a 113-point total.

Stephanie Ilenko, who coaches the team with Katelyn Amuso, said, "Glen Rock enjoys hosting the other teams in our league for the championship meet and the entire meet ran very smoothly. Our swimmers were very enthusiastic are they cheered on their teammates. We were all very proud that we came in third place this year and we know it was a reflection of our hard work."

Amuso said, "This year, our focus has been rebuilding our team and conveying a positive attitude. The results of our championship meet show our determination and strength to not only race faster but also cheer on our team members. We are very excited to see what next year will bring."

Although Glen Rock had no individual winners, the team had 12 second-place finishes, 10 by the boys, and 15 thirds, 10 by the girls. Glen Rock was runner-up in three relays, third in another.

Edward Cosgrove finished second in two events in the boys 13/14 age group and teamed with Matthew Prebola, Siddhant Vadakkan and Nicholas Martell for a second in the freestyle relay. Cosgrove had seconds in the freestyle and backstroke, Vadakkan in the 11/12 butterfly and Prebola in the 13/14 breaststroke. Vadakkan was third in the 12-and-under individual medley, and Martell was third in the 11/12 breaststroke.

Ron Ledeniov also had two runner-up finishes in boys events, the 15/17 backstroke and 13-and-over individual medley. He also teamed with Arthur Tonoyan, Samantha Peck and Emily Pragdat for a second in the mixed freestyle relay. Tonoyan was second in the 15/17 breaststroke and third in the butterfly in that age bracket. Peck finished third in the butterfly and Pragdat third in the freestyle in the girls 15/17 category.

Vedant Vadakkan, Owen Anderson, Christopher Munshower and Emmett White formed the boys 9/10 freestyle relay team that came in second. Mark Morea (backstroke) and Luke Prebola (breaststroke) had individual thirds in that age group.

Kelsey Boyle and Catalina Cecoltan both had a pair of thirds for the girls, Boyle in the 13/14 breaststroke and backstroke and Cecoltan in the 13/14 butterfly and 12-and-under individual medley. Samantha Marchica (backstroke) and Miriam Inbar (breaststroke) both had thirds in the 11/12 bracket. Casey Roberts finished third in the 9/10 freestyle.

Pragdat finished fourth in two events for the girls. Peck, Isabella Vitelli Roth and Ashley Cha also had fourths in individual competition and the 11/12 freestyle relay also had a fourth. Ellie Cha, Katrina Biskobing, Megan Anderson and Abby Boyle formed the relay team.

Vedant Vadakkan, Paul Caverly, Nicholas Martell and Nicholas Jennings had fourth-place finishes and Matthew Prebola a fifth for the boys. Tamara Inbar and Megan Anderson had fifths for the girls.

Two relay teams finished fifth — Kathleen Cosgrove, Sophia Allison, Gianna Vaccari and Callie Roberts for the 9/10 girls and Caverly, Morea, Tal Ledeniov and James Jeon for the 11/12 boys.

"The overall season went very well," Ilenko said. "We were happy to see an increase in our swimmer participation this year, especially with our younger swimmers.

"We would also like to thank our parents for their continued support and a special thank you to all of our parent volunteers," she added. "Our swim meets would not run as well without their help. We hope everyone has a safe and fun school year."
