Giants' Josh Brown says he is disappointed by NFL suspension

EAST RUTHERFORD – Josh Brown publicly expressed disappointment Thursday with the NFL’s decision to suspend him for one game over what he called “a moment” 15 months ago with his now ex-wife that led to domestic violence charges being filed.

That charge was dropped by prosecutors five days later.

Transgressions under the league’s personal conduct policy include steroid or alcohol use, gun possession, domestic violence or any unspecified conduct that “undermines or puts at risk the integrity” of the NFL.

Brown acknowledged Thursday that his suspension stemmed from that incident at his Washington home in May of 2015. He and his wife have since divorced.

“First of all, I’m not going to go into detail about anything,” Brown said. “My major concern is my three kids, and the things that are put out there, and the things that are being said. Like everybody’s aware of, this moment happened over a year ago. The case was dropped five days after the moment happened, and we’ve moved forward with our lives at this point. While I’m not okay with the decision, I have to respect it. I look forward to a 15-game season and moving forward with my teammates.”

Giants coach Ben McAdoo reiterated his support for Brown that he expressed in a statement Wednesday.

“We support the league office in their decision and their stance on personal conduct,” McAdoo said. “I do support Josh as a man, a father, and a player. We treat these situations on a case by case basis.”

Brown said he is aware of how this situation and his suspension may alter his reputation in the public’s eye.

“It’s not something that you want, and like I said, my main concern is my kids,” Brown said. “That’s the last thing you ever want to be on the internet, that they would read or their friends would read and the way that they would be approached at school and how they’re looked upon. Is it good? No, it’s not.”
