The Personal Style of Danielle Borelli
Danielle Borelli sticks to the classics for everyday wear. You can usually find her in a lightweight Missoni sweater, pair of pants and Prada flats during the day. “I hate sneakers, so I tend to look a little dressed up because I wear flats even with sweatpants,” she says. “My Prada flats are durable enough for the baseball field at my son’s games.” At night, Borelli adds a subtle edge to her look and wears something that is currently on trend. Two trends she is embracing this season are fringe and lace. “At night I tend to wear a dressy shirt with dark-wash jeans, funky jewelry and open-toe heels or wedges,” she says. “I’ve recently been buying costume jewelry as I’ve found it to really liven up an outfit. I love big earrings and big hair, two trends from the ’80s I can never let go of, and even carry hairspray and a pick in my handbag at all times. “I wear a lot of black at night during the cooler months and when it’s warmer, I wear Missoni and Cavalli, which are really colorful brands,” Borelli says. “I generally don’t spend a lot of money on trendy pieces unless I think they can become a long-standing staple. I generally try to shop sale for myself and always hop around from store to store. The only time I shop full price for myself is at a charity event.” Her favorite stores are Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City, Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, and Threads in Westwood, where she finds clothing for her 16-year-old twin daughters, as well as herself. For special occasions, Borelli and her daughters head into the city to Saks Fifth Avenue where she teaches them how to shop and what pieces to invest in. “You can gain so much from a shopping experience and make it such a bonding moment,” she says. Borelli is a firm believer in charity work, especially helping those in your own backyard. For the past 14 years, she has been involved with Table to Table, a local organization that picks up unused food that would be discarded by restaurants and delivers it to soup kitchens and homeless shelters. “Many areas need help right here – you just have to look for it,” she says. “The important thing about charity for me is that you can always give something. If you can’t give your money, you can give your time. And if you don’t have time, you can give a resource. If everyone did something, what a difference it would make.” Family and food played an important role in Borelli’s upbringing and is a big part of her culture. Her favorite time is spent with her family watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune every night and having a home-cooked meal together. “There was always something so warm and inviting about having a home-cooked meal every night with my family, and I believe everyone should experience that,” she says. For nights out with her husband, and for special occasions, they dine at Le Jardin in Edgewater. Heel the Soul, is another charity very close to her heart, since the passing of her mother two years ago from cancer. “The foundation aids and supports women with cancer,” Borelli says. “When the matriarch of the family gets sick, the impact on a family can be tremendous, so we are here to support them. I am so lucky to have such a supportive husband and children, so I know firsthand how important that help and support is.” Borelli decided to make her health a priority and takes spin and barre classes regularly. She also went after a long-term goal and got her real estate license. She is a working Realtor with Keller Williams in Tenafly. “I hadn’t exercised in 20 years and now I’m addicted,” she says.
