Tracking Board reports that Hasbro and 20th Century Fox are working on a new adaptation of the board game Clue. The story will be a “worldwide mystery” with action-adventure elements, with the potential to set up a franchise that would sell well internationally. Daria Cercek will oversee for Fox with Ryan Jones executive producing and Hasbro Studios’ Josh Feldman producing.

Clue is one of several Hasbro games that Hasbro Studios is developing, in addition to Monopoly, Risk and Candy Land. They are also expanding the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises in film and TV.

The Clue remake was set at Universal before they let go of the rights in 2011. It was part of a six-year deal with Hasbro that Universal had at the time. Hasbro kept trying with the remake, working with director Gore Verbinski and Blind Wink. He was set to direct then, but it’s unknown if he will helm the film this time.

The property was originally adapted as a 1985 film directed by Jonathan Lynn from a script by John Landis. The film starred Tim Curry and was a straight adaptation of the game, with the various characters solving a murder mystery in an old house.
