Annual wakeboarding competition held on Lake Hopatcong

Hundreds of fans gathered last Saturday at the Lake Forest Yacht Club on Lake Hopatcong for what was touted as the largest wakeboarding competition in the Northeast. David Smith was way high as he maneuvered off the wake in an intense spiraling flight path behind the speeding tow boat. For the ninth year, what started as a North-South Jersey event, has morphed into a loose competition that pits local boarders against riders from as far away as Maryland and Long Island. Local boarder Randy Sorensen was pounding the wake in the "Masters Class" and getting big air as he twisted and flew through his list of tricks. What the fans came for was the thrilling feats by the 62 competitors out on the water and the party vibe on the beach. Arden Kassalen catches some air as she attempts a behind the back grip change. Seven young ladies competed in their own class, proving that not only do the boys have daring within them to take on this thrilling sport.6-year-old Landon Waltimyer from York, Pa. was out early with the "Kids Class" and was all geared up for more on the beach. Landon has been water skiing since he was three and after getting his first wakeboard a year ago, he wants nothing more than being towed on a lake, according to his dad.
