The last few weeks have been quite an adventure. There was Gamescom in Cologne with a side trip to Amsterdam. I was barely back before it was time to go to Seattle for PAX. And I'm typing this note from the Shinkansen racing across Japan from Tokyo -- where we covered TGS -- to Oaska for a two-day trip.
Then there's the other big adventure. Yes, leaving 1UP, becoming Editorial Director for Game Fly Media, and relocating to LA. It feels surreal talking about the whole thing from halfway around the world. I can't really imagine what it's going to feel like when I get back either, much less when I wake up one morning a LA resident about to make the commute to the office.
Watching the landscape stream by in a blur I've been thinking about how leaving 1UP does end a chapter of my life, but it's been one of the best. There's far more than I can cover in one blog but here's a few things off the top of my head. I remember standing in the elevator lobby on one of the floors of the Fig chatting with Sam near the end of E3 back when I was freelancing. We're sharing stories about all the stuff we'd seen and were excited about when he just stops and says man, we've got to get you to San Francisco. And to his word, he and John managed to make it happen before the next E3 rolled around.
Not long after I arrived I was sitting in Jeff Green's office talking about how we could work together to create a strong PC presence on the site (my first job here was PC Editor). Here we had this fantastic magazine but somehow weren't getting its connection through to 1UP well at all. We were just brainstorming basic ideas on how to put it all together and as we started to wrap up Jeff sort of paused and then said in his inimitable way man, it's awesome to have you here. Our PC section took off so quickly that before you knew it we made PC a regular platform on the site and I went on to be Managing Editor but Jeff's enthusiasm and support helped me tremendously through those early days.
Milky was like that too. He was always down to listen when I needed an ear. Whether it was work related or just taking a couple minutes break to talk about music or something I knew if I spent a couple minutes rapping with Milky in his office I'd walk away feeling up. And he was a great creative guy to work around. 1UP's former super-artist Karen Chu sat outside where my office was for a long while. It was around the time we were just starting the week-long coverstories. One of the first times Milky was over at her desk working on a cover design just naturally asks me over, pulls me into the design, and we spend the next couple hours pounding out concepts.
And then there's this little podcast thing. For starters, and I know I've shared this before but it's been a while, whatever success 1UP podcasts have enjoyed all goes back originally to Jane Pinckard. She was the original advocate for a 1UP podcast and got it started entirely on her own. She had me on one of those early shows. We were in an unused office, gathered around a USB stick mic, and from the first moment it was magic to me. I thought to myself you know this is it: real people having real conversations about what they dig.
We wound up doing a pretty good job of that on 1UP Yours and Listen UP I think, though, it didn't happen overnight. When I first hit on the format there weren't other regular regulars on the show. I'd send out emails asking people what they'd been up to and if they'd come on that went mostly unanswered. Then I'd wind up walking around the office at the last minute more or less grabbing people and convincing them to come on. John got behind the show pretty quick. Once he'd done a couple times he was hooked much the same way I'd been the first time I'd tried it.
It all came together pretty rapidly after that. Shane came on and was immediately into it. Andrew and I had become good friends and when he got involved he just naturally took to producing and then Luke arrived at 1UP about the same time, came down to a taping just after he'd started, and was like, hey, that looks cool.
Of course people would come and go with the fourth chair taking on a sort of Madden curse like reputation for being the next person to leave the group. It was always tough when it happened too. Here I was bummed and sad to see these people go but I had to step it up even more then. Every change was a gut check. But ultimately we always loved what we were doing so while it would never be the same show as it was the version before it always wound up being a good new show.
Good thing I like challenges like that because I've certainly jumped into plenty of them. One of the big questions was will there be a new show. For me the answer is most definitely. Of course this time the challenge isn't filling one absent chair it's coming up with a whole new show. I suspect the team here will go through a similar process. Listen UP was never 1UP Yours, for that matter, 1UP Yours was never 1UP Yours for all that long at a time. Hopefully we'll create new shows that go on to be bigger and better successes.
In the meantime, next week we'll be doing my last show -- a farewell special. And I'll be around. Reading back through this blog it still all feels and sounds so surreal. I think even I still need some time to process it all. And if you have any questions fire away in the comments. I'll do my best to answer, though, it may be when I get back from Japan.

It sucks that you're going, but I'm sure everyone wishes you the best in whatever you do and they're happy for you. We've still got an awesome archive of podcasts to look back on at any time. Heck, I'm working through them again now and it's been a lot of nostalgic fun.

Thanks Garnett

I'm sure you've had a million such messages, but I just wanted to saqy thanks for brightening up my Saturday morning. Long time French listener here (yes there must be a few of us) and listening to you guys chat about games always put a smile on my face. Best of luck in your new venture.

Damn. I'm gonna miss you confirming my weekend, Garnett. You know something is up when an internet personallity you've never met touches your life. Good luck over at Gamefly/ShackNews and make sure to update this blog when you get the new podcast up and running. Honestly, you're one of my last reasons for coming here, and Listen Up/1up Yours was always my number one podcast (out of 13 or so, all told).

Dude, this sucks...

Don't get me wrong, I'm super happy for you. But you've been the voice of my morning commute for two years now (yes, I love 1Up Yours/Listen UP so much I listen to it almost daily), and you're pretty much the only reason I've continued to come to this site since the UGO buyout.
Best wishes in everything. You can bet I'll be following any writing and/or podcasting coming from you in the future.

What, you are going?

Weak. Well best of luck in the new job. I always appreciated the devils advocate role you took on in 1up yours and listen up as well as your great hosting. Oh, and do us all a favor and complete Yakuza 2, then tell us what you think of it! BTW the TGS Yakuza trailer was amazing wasn't it!

Congrats but, yeah, it sucks to see you go

I'm sure a lot of people don't understand but I know I speak for myself when I say that the idea of your 1UP podcasts being gone is, what I would call, a tremendous bummer. A lot of people who don't like video games or don't understand why people love video games as much as us probably won't get why something like a podcast is such a big deal to me but I honestly don't care. I loved your show. Last night, I reminisced about all the times I listened to 1UP Yours and Listen UP. It brought me back to my favorite apartment in college- making Friday night dinner while I had my iPod on. Or long drives to the beach every summer I would force myself to save a few episodes so I would have something to fill the 8-hour void. There are a lot of memories linked to the show. It's strange but when you spend two hours a week listening to the same people talk you get used to that block of entertainment. It's just a drag to see it go but it also indicates the end of an era. John is moving on from WhatTheyPlay, as are you, and many of the people in your blog entry have already left. Jeff Green is at EA and so on. As readers of 1UP there was always this link to the content and the people writing it. I was talking to my girlfriend about the podcast being over- "It's like a band breaking up" I told her. Thankfully, she's been with me for four years and understands my video game nerdiness. I'll definitely be checking Shacknews for your new show. I'm also looking forward to seeing what John ends up doing. Best of luck to you and David and everyone else at 1UP. Thanks for doing the show- like I said it might sound silly but fuck it- your show meant a lot to me and, just as anything else you really like, I will miss it.

Congrats on the new positon Garnett. It sounds like a great opportunity for you.
I just wanted to thank you for the years of great podcasts and content. 1UP Yours/ListenUP has helped me get through many a weekend of homework for college. I will miss the podcast but I am curious and anxious to see what you do next. Good luck and thanks again.

... Sad to see another of the key voices that brought me to 1up, go!
The 1up podcasts have clicked in a way some of their counterparts haven't, and have become a weekly staple of my audio world for the past couple of years. I'll be very disappointed not to tune in to '4Guys1up' week-to-week. Appreciate the effort of all who were involved.
Good luck to you, sir!

It's been a tough couple of years for the 1Up network with people leaving, being let go, format changes. But of the lot of them, I think this is the most difficult.
No matter the changes in roster or format, The Voice of the 1Up Network of podcasts has always been there. Having weekends confirmed for the past I don't know how many years I've been listening to 1Up's shows has been a highlight of my week's many commutes. You've been a great part of the heart of this organization and its editorial voice, Garnett.
Very happy to see you move on and up. (and hopefully in to a better pay scale, yeah?)
I just hate to see you go.
We miss you already. Be sure to come back and confirm the occasional weekend if you can.

You did great things at 1up and came across genuine all the time. Your passion for the games industry comes through loud and clear and I appreciate the maturity in your approach.
Now get to work on bringing down the rental prices and get these brick and mortars on their heels pronto. Gamefly has potential to take over - good call!
Best of luck and hope your new podcast is more "Out of Game" than "EApodcast" (poor Jeff)

1up Yours
Posted: Sep 30, 2009 12:00AM PST by onela
1Up Yours and Listen Up have been such a constant in my life the past couple of years. There are things that I've done while listening to the podcast, and while I'll never forget doing those things because they were cool, I'll always remember that 1Up Yours and Listen Up were what I listened to while doing it because it's been the soundtrack of my grown-up nerd life. I've listened to 1Up Yours in a Sea King helicopter, at the top of medieval towers, and while smashing my own personal best time for a 10K road race (55 mins 25 seconds! Thank god I'll still have Jeremy Parish to listen to while I run, Retronauts is great for maintaining a pace!). It'll be weird without you confirming my weekends anymore. All the best.

Hey Garnett. Sorry to hear you're leaving. You've done a lot of great things on 1up over the time you've been there. It's great that you're heading on to bigger and better things, but I'm sure you'll be missed by all of your readers. It was actually listening to Listen UP over E3 that really got me started on working in the industry, so thanks for creating that, and really sticking with it! I'll look forward to the Listen UP farewell special, and all the best in the future! :)

1UP Yours was the podcast that made me understand how effective a podcast was as a medium.
While there are many I listen to on a regular basis now (all ones I was made aware of via 1UP in some way or another), 1UP Yours/Listen UP was always the "main" podcast.
To give a TV analogy, you made Listen UP the "prime time" podcast, where most others are the "local TV".

You will be sorely missed by this guy.
You've been an inspiration to me, not just through your writing, but through your podcasting. 1UP Yours is the podcast that truly inspired me to start podcasting, and about 30 episodes later, I've come to gain a lot more respect for the work that you do on the show.
Though I'm not sure if Game Night was your idea, your participation and leadership on that helped my friends and I to start a student organization at the University of Alabama. Our main event: Game Night. We rent out the bottom floor of the student union and set up about 7-8 giant TVs and play all sorts of games.
Thanks for always being enthusiastic about doing 1UP Yours/ListenUP, even when some people were down on show. Thanks for having a show every week, regardless of how busy the office was (especially during EGM deadline days). Thanks for treating your audience like adults and not a bunch of kids. Thanks for your intelligent discussions, provocative and evocative topics, and attempting to be as objective as possible. Thanks for entertaining me and many of my friends through our walks to class here at the University of Alabama.
But most of all, thanks for being a friend, whether you realized it or not.

I will make it quick. You are the only male I've ever been excited to hear his voice week after week after week. You began during my senior year of high school and now you end my senior year of college. You've made the walk to class(es) less boring. You've made work bearable. And you've made the weekend super chill. Thank you for that. I will follow you wherever you go. Just be sure to keep confirming my weekend please:)

Your shear enthusiasm, I think is the reason you resonate with so many like minded gamers. They're many of us out there, who don't have the sort of friends that are all that well into the video game lifestyle. Not in such a way do they appreciate it as such, the great creative medium of art, style an imagination that surpass most means of entertainment today in my opinion.
Thats where you guys came in, an help facilitate my love for the electronic games, at last someone to identify with (in a sense) and have insightful, intelligent conversations all while having a great time at one anothers expense. I think as the host you took the brunt of the jokes incredibly gracefully. Your mind seemed to be working so fast most times your mouth couldn't keep up, made for some truly classic moments and genuine laughs. As far as radio hosts go, you were one of the best and always help reign it in, an move it on so seamlessly that the show never stilted, but was always great from beginning to end.
You were also the anchor as so many great personalities moved on. I always knew the show would remain relevant as long as you were at the helm. So I just wanted to say thanks for all the great podcasts and I look forward to listening to your new endeavor.
And as a suggestion I think you'd make a great addition to the stellar "out of the game" podcast. You'd fit in well.
Now I'm gonna go take my iPod for a run, it's been crying in the corner for the past hour.

The show has been a constant companion for me these past four years that it's been around. I still remember randomly coming to 1up at 3:00 a.m. in some kind of insomnia driven stupor, looking to pass the time, and finding some "podcast" thing with Jane Pinckard and some guy named Garnett Lee talking about video games. Then there were the "golden years" with you, John, Shane, Luke, and Skip (who was always shouting from the back it seemed). Then there were the late friday nights spent anxiously waiting for the podcast to upload to the zdmedia servers, and Skip finally coming online to post that we'd have to wait until the next day. (That sounds so sad in retrospect.) Of course, I will also never forget the crazy hippie commune setup you guys let us keep in the old 1up Radio forum or the other batshit insane wild west stuff that happened in the depths of that obscure little subforum.
Thank you for gracing us with your personality. Whether it was the sometimes dickish trolling, your devil's advocate defense of some subjects, your mispronounced meme-generating "words", the crazy alcohol-fueled arguments, or the constant picking of innuendo, I thank you for all of those memories. You provided a means of entertainment and insight into what I had long been told was just a passing hobby. You and everyone else involved with 1up showed me that there are others having the same conversations that me and my friends have and that there is no reason to be ashamed by it (sort of). Good luck in your next job! Not only do I hope that you succeed, but that you continue to expand and grow the audience in your new venture in the way that only you can.

Congrats and good luck over at Gamefly Media or whatever the place is called, and tell them just who's goddamn show really is.
I'm surprised no one hasn't tried anything but Weekend Confirm, but I got something better.
To you Garnett: Forever Confirmed.

Also, I really hope 1up has a quality podcast for friday. Damn, I still remember the 360 round table discussion from 05. Good times. 1up make sure to continue the great legacy of 1up podcasts. I'm a high school senior soon to go off to college, and it feels sort of appropriate that one of the few constants over my high school years, fridays listening to you and john and a couple other guys talk about games, is ending now. I can fully attribute my current interest in the industry and in games to your podcasts. As much as we loved Luke and Shane and what they brought to the group, it was always your goddamn show, and your goddamn voice that kept me coming back to 1up after the ugo chaos. Now that you're leaving I can't even pretend to hope that it will be the same. Thanks for the obscene number of hours I've spent listening to you talk, you'll be sorely missed.
Any chance you'll podcast with some of the ex-ziff people who moved to LA?

Congrats on the new gig Garnett, but at the same time, damn you for progressing your career! It's like when your stuck at a shitty job with a bunch of great people, and slowly they all start leaving for greener pastures. You can't help but feel left behind(guess we'll just have to follow you over to GameFly)!
I grew up reading EGM, back when the ol' fogies like Steve Harris, Ed Semrad, Ninja-X and the like ran the joint. I always felt like Garnett and the 1UpYours/ListenUp crew carried forward that great spirit that was started early on the in magazine, and subsequently, 1up.com's life cycle. It's been my favorite magazine & site ever since, and while that won't change with Garnett gone, he'll definitely be missed. Thanks for all the good times and good luck!

I've never gone on to say thank you, but now that you're leaving 1up, I think it's a good idea to. Thank you Garnett.
I remember listening to 1up Yours because I wanted to listen to other podcast besides Kojima Productions Report about two years ago. I was hooked on the first episode I came across and I thought this podcast thing was awesome. I downloaded other shows and realized that that wasn't necessarily true. It's was Garnett Lee that was awesome. I listened to other popular game podcast and found most of them to be cynical, arrogant, and simply annoy.
Your enthusiasm for video games is second to none in games journalism. I can't wait to tune in to your future show. I couldn't stand the wait when 1up Yours was transitioning to Listen Up.
Congrats Garnnett.

Good luck to you Mr. Lee. I will miss your reviews and your ability to play devil's advocate on the podcast(s). You have left an impression on me and many, many others. And on a more personal note, thanks for the heads up on the Hospital Records podcast, I've found a lot of new music that I like thanks to them and you. Keep up the good work, and thanks again.

Can't wait to see what you do with your next show. Maybe you can have the other LA alums show up on your new show somewhere down the road.

To be honest Garnet, I thought you were going to move on quite awhile ago. It makes sense and I am very happy for you. It is also very sad as Listen Up (and 1up yours) has always been there for me during bad work days. Just there to get me through. Thank you for all your years of podcasting and being part of 1up
I bet you don't remember this, but we talked for awhile at gameworks after pax. I told you I would be in San Francisco later this winter and I would buy you a drink, to which you happily accepted. This probably won't happen now. Maybe some 1up yours fans will send you some good burbon when you get settled in LA.
Good luck! we're all watching with anticipation!

You know what dude? 1up was never the same when everyone started leaving and when the chemistry of the show changed with all these new faces and faces that came back and whatnot. You stuck around the longest but to be honest I hated the show by then. It felt uninspired and it just became the same shit over and over again. You never tried new things to try to make the show better so I just stopped giving a shit about the flagship podcast. Its a good thing you're leaving cause maybe now there could be something new. Your vocal insights in games seemed redundant and without well composed thoughts. It's no jab at you personally but maybe its a good time to move on and let someone else try to make something good out of what's been at the bottom for so long. Peace out and take care.

Thanks for all those shows!

I know you'll be putting together something new but having you leave this show is really the end of an era. I've enjoyed the way you've thrown your opinion into the mix and played devil's advocate to keep others debating topics. The other chairs could rotate around but I've always considered 1UP Yours and Listen UP to be your show. I'm glad I got to say hi and thank you in person at PAX this year. Thanks for the years of great games discussion!
Don't take too long putting another podcast together...I'll go through withdraw not having one of my favorite podcasting personalities to listen to every week! =)

Thanks

1up Yours and Listen Up was EASILY my favorite podcasts (and I listened to quite a few I would say). It was truly magic what you guys had and I find it difficult to believe that once you leave, that magic will continue.I always dug your opinions btw (even though I didn't always agree). But anyway I wish you well on your ongoing journey.

Wow. The Podcast Was the Highlight of My Week. Seriously.
Posted: Oct 01, 2009 12:00AM PST by jvaudio
Damn. You and the guests on your show were a shining example of what gaming is and should be. Differing opinions shared amongst a group of friends with a common interest and love of the medium.
I have an hour plus commute (each way) every day, and I always looked forward to working on Saturday because I could spend the entire commute listening to you and the guys talking about gaming and games. You did a fantastic job of running the show, and I want to thank you very much for the work that you put into it. I remember actually being sad when Luke left...and I never even met the guy! You and your guests have made an impact.
Best of luck to you Garnett. I look forward to your future work.

Thanks Garnett

Jane pioneered this whole thing, but you ushered in the new age. Gaming podcasts today survive as reactionary or outright copycats of 1UP Yours. All the best.

Thanks Garnett

The only reason I ever found out about 1UP was because of your podcast. I have been working out to podcasts for a few years now, and I always enjoyed myself the most when I was listening to Yours/Listen UP. I can't wait until you start up a new podcast, because you are the core of what makes your podcast great.

I think the word you're looking for is "reminiscences", but you wouldn't be Garnett without that notoriety for mispronunciations.
In case you somehow aren't aware, you are THE voice of videogame podcasting. Nothing will ever be the same without you. Happy trails.

Thanks for confirming all my past weekends

You will be surely missed. Your insight on games and ability to guide your podcast crew will be some tough shoes to fill. Good luck as Gamefly!
Special Request: Don't stay away from podcasting too long! Round up the Ex-1up folks in LA and start a new podcast!

As messaged to you Garnett, you'll be missed at 1UP. I'd love to hear the story of how you started out on Gamestyle with Meerman and the rest. What made you start writing for them first and how you got your break at 1up.
Good luck with the future, you've worked hard and deserve it :)
Check out www.casuallyhardcore.net for some awesome video game inspired clothing too! ;)

Garnett for all the awesome-ness thats come from this site and your magazine that you clearly had a massive part in. 1upYours was the first podcast I started listening to and because of that I ended up checking out tonnes of other podcasts, now listening to at least 5 every week.
I'm not too sad that you're leaving 1up, after all I'm sure just like Jeff, Shane and Shawn you'll be on the internet somewhere in some capacity, perhaps even doing the occasional podcast still.
Best of luck with whatever you end up doing next. I look forward to this weeks (and the last?) ListenUp.

Nah, its no tears, i just got something into the eye
Posted: Oct 02, 2009 12:00AM PST by tomsamson
Man, that sucks, all the old school 1up guys leaving one after the other =(
There are only very few people left now at 1up whom i like and have respect for (like Jeremy Perish) and while i don´t support bashing of the ones who are still there (especially Tina seems to get lots of bashing as said in some pdcasts) i totally feel with those who are sad that all those guys they had so much respect for are going one by one.
Well, not much more left to do then wish you all the best, man, and thanks for all your great work over the years, it made passing some annoying coding work much more enjoyable, just like travelling around.
Now thinking about it its really funny, all us listeners never met any of you 1up podcasters and yet you guys have travelled all around various countries with us on our iPhones and other players :)
Oh yeah, one more thing: You totally should do a new podcast wherever you go, will ya?! :)

Will Garnett Lee have another goddamn show over at GameFly?
Posted: Oct 02, 2009 12:00AM PST by MaceMan4
Does GameFly even have any podcasts? I'm not subscribed yet so I wouldn't know. It might help in the selection of games for customers to hear the opinions of famed podcast host Garnett Lee. I sure would have a listen.
Thanks Dallas Scrambler for years of informative and controversial productions - all entertaining.

Ive never posted on here garnet, but just reading your blog i feel the need to write a few words of thanks. Every week for what seems like an eternity I'ed boot up itunes and take great comfort in seeing the 1up/listen up podcast downloading. it seems like every major event in my life you guys have been around me when I started a new job, moving house, getting engadged, growing up, hard times. I know this sounds kinda mad but i feel like I know you guys and that you guys know me. I just want to say thank you for all these years, have the most amazing good luck in your new job.

I listen to several video game podcasts, but I always looked forward to your weekly podcasts the most. You are the most passionate and enthusiastic game journalist in the business, and it always showed in your podcasts/reviews/news articles. The thing I noticed and respected about you more than any other person in the industry was that you were just a normal guy who loved his job and tried to bring the best content possible to the fans. You didn't make it about you; you did it for us. I'm 22 now, but I've been passionate about games since I was 4-5 years old. As a lifelong video game fanatic, I can say I truly appreciate all of your hard work at 1up. Good luck with everything - I'm sure whatever you do you will be successful. Also, I'm looking forward to your next project (it can't come soon enough)!
Thanks for everything Garnett!

I drive an hour to work everyday, but loved it thanks to your podcast. I was hoping to run into you at Gamescon to tell you in person how much I appreciated the show. You definitely held it together through all the fourth chair changes and kept the show entertaining. So thanks Garnett, and good luck.

Really going to miss you.

I've listened to the podcast every weekend now for two years. It is going to be weird to not have your voice coming through my iPod headphones. It was amazing to get hyped along with you guys as the releases got closer and closer last fall. And every time you read some comment I had put on the boards I was thrilled. Sorry that won't be happening anymore but that is life. People have to move on. But just know this: you have influenced not only a whole slew of gaming podcast, but also a whole slew of gamers. I had no idea that games could be discussed in an intelligent manner until I first listened to 1UP Yours. And though you guys had your moments of drunken immaturity, you definitely left your message. And I won't soon be forgetting it.

Good Bye and Welcome.

First off, let me start by welcoming you to Los Angeles. It may not be the best place in the world, but you'll learn to appreciate it. This is terrible news for Listen Up. You are the voice of the podcast, but I'm sure the other guys will keep delivering a great show. Good luck.

But it's going to be weird and sad waking up saturday morning(noon) and not having your voice to wake up with and eating my breakfast too. It was getting to be a ritual for me.
So thanks again and hope we get to hear from you again at some time.

I honestly can not express in this post, how much I love the podcast Garnett. Although it sounds very pathetic, but this podcast was highlight of my friday night, finishing whatever I was doing and listening to the podcasts, I would click refresh constanly to see if it had gone up. Then I started workingout and decided to save MY FAVORITE PODCAST for my long saturday morning workout, it was my inspiration to get up early and workout. I am deeply saddened that you will be leaving but the best of luck to you in your future endeavors at Gamefly, and I look forward to the new podcast.

I've spent over five years having you confirm my weekends, Garnett. I was always excited to go on my runs on Friday because of 1up Yours and Listen Up. The music would kick in and a smile would go across my face. Two summers ago, I was San Francisco for the first time. I knew no one there but you guys kept me from feeling homesick. It may sound weird, but it will feel like I'm loosing friends. I just want to say thank you for over five years of great writing and podcasting. Thanks Garnett

Part of being a leader....

...is stepping up and letting those you have lead take the helm. As excited as you are to get started on your new gig you must also be excited to see what takes place when you leave. Who steps up? What changes and what remains the same. You've done a great job at 1up.
On a more selfish note I have to say that yours was one of the voices in gaming that made me proud to be part of the gaming community.
Ok, who's taking bets? I bet Garnet gets choked up in the first 20 mins of the farewell show.

Good luck on your new endevours. I know I'll be following them, and hoping to see you in a podcast again.
1 up yours and listen up has been my favorite podcast since I first started listening to game podcasts a couple of years ago. And it's largely because of you (and John Davidson, who seems also to be moving in new directions). Thanks for the many hours of entertainment, and knowledge that I have recieved from listening to the podcast.

Good Luck on your new Adventure!

Congrats to you Garnet on this new chapter in your life. :)
A huge, huge thanks to you and all of the guys and gals responsible for the 1Up Yours and Listen Up podcasts over the past few years. Without which I don't know what I'd do to get my weekly fix of gaming commentary. I loved the shows for their unwavering honesty and passion, and I do hope you can do something similar in your new home. It's just a shame people like John won't be a regular any more, well unless you can persuade him to move to LA, he did it to you when you moved to SF ;)

I hope you have a great time at your new job. Its probably pretty evident how much you'll be missed from the comments on here. You and the crew entertained me during many long commutes to work.
I'm sure everyone's wondering though; where can we find you next? Will you have another podcast endeavor somewhere else?
Best of luck Garnett. You'll be missed.

I don't want to sound to much like a suck up but let's face it, the father of the video game podcast is moving on. 1up yours and Listen Up have been the blue print for all the numerous other podcast of it's ilk. Garnett and the other three guys he's had throughout the years have always been entertaining and informative. I would just like to say good luck, god's speed and thanks not only for the years of service but also for showing everyone else how it's done.

I was playing Phantom Hourglass when I heard you say that. Once my wife and I traveled through West Virginia, when I think of that interstate I also think of your opinion of HAWX. 1up Yours and Listen Up have been sort of a soundtrack for parts of my life, another one that I am very sad to see come to a close. You have always been the voice for these shows and have made them always work regardless of who came and went.
Thank you for all of the insight and entertainment.

Garnett -- words can't express the amount of fun and happiness your hard work has provided to this listener over the years. I'm a successfull corporate type with a loving family but every week downloading the latest show and excitedly listening to another great episode was something that I not only looked forward to but was also grateful for.
Things have been tough lately (economy) but no matter the current challenge the podcast was always something that we could rely on to take our mind off of things.
Time is fleeting and I had a feeling something like this was going to happen -- we've shared your triumphs and laughter, your tears (Dec 08/Jan 09) and now we wish you a fond farewell and best of luck.
Now it is time for the listening audience to reflect back on the good times and be thankful for you pouring your heart and soul into something that we all shared. Time will heal our wounds but in the meantime there will definitely be a void -- you will be missed tremendously.
Thank you, Garnett and Congratulations -- I hope we get to listen to a Gamefly Podcast also!!! :)

so what's going to happen to Listen Up?
Posted: Oct 09, 2009 12:00AM PST by TreyTable
I guess that's kind of selfish to ask. David Ellis isn't leaving, right? I guess I have to admit that I hate change, such a greedy thing. I wish you all the best in you new career at GameFly Media. Maybe you could suggest that a distribution center in New England would be a great idea. :) Godspeed, Garnett Lee.

I knew when Ziff was bought out that it was only a matter of time before you moved on. John left What They Play, I unsubscribed to that podcast. Now you're leaving 1up, I'm unsubscribing. You and John were the only 2 I listened to the show for.
I hope you do get a new podcast, I will follow you to whatever podcast you do next. Good luck in your new job.

Wow... what can I say! I finally found the time to listen to your last pod cast at 1up today. Another emotional time for me to see you go! Everything you get choked up... I do too. I have been following your pod casting for 2 years now. It has kept me company on my long/hard 3 hour a day commute. Before I discovered the 1 up show Id be miserable with this commute. Afterwards I had something to look forward to (on mondays) to keep my company and bring me joy. Then the big ziff lay offs went down... I was really upset. For a short while I thought my sweet ride was over. But luckily after the dust settled, this turned out a number of new pod casts that I could listen to in the week (all with fabulous personalities). I was entertained for nearly 3 full days of travel a week listening to such things as Listen Up, The Geekbox, Out of the Game etc. And thats how I have to look at this to. its not the end, but rather an epansion of entertainment for myself. While I will miss your interwactions with the old cast, I am sure you will do amazing with any cast members. I am truely excited for you and your future career. You have really left your mark on the video game pod casting shows Garnett! You are by far the best host I have listened to. And I look forward to your new damn show, as well as listening to the new 1 up pod cast. best of luck old friend.

Well do what you can to fix the abortion that is gamefly - you can't make it any worse ;)
I'm unsubscribing to the one-up podcast, I don't think I could take David Ellis's nattering inanity with out your buffering influence. Seriously, how does he still have a job?
Good luck, can't wait to hear what your next podcast is, between you and Idle Thumbs I felt I had the 2 best gaming podcasts.

When you leave 1UP you'll be escorted to a limo by olice as girls scream wildly and throw themselves on top of the limo screaming your name.
Well... that's how it should be.
