HOLA - HISPANIC ORGANIZATION OF LATIN ACTORS
TO PRESENT HONORS AND AWARDS AT
4TH ANNUAL CEREMONY

ANTONIO BANDERAS, PULITZER PRIZE WINNING PLAYWRIGHT NILO CRUZ, STAGE AND SCREEN ACTRESSES ANTONIA REY AND OLGA MEREDIZ, AND JOURNALIST MARÍA CELESTE ARRARÁS ARE THE HONOREES AND AWARDS TO BE GIVEN TO THE BEST OF LATINO THEATRE

(New York, NY) -- The Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA) announced that it will present the 4th Annual HOLA Awards ceremony celebrating the best in Latino Theatre on Monday, September 22, 2003 at 6:30pm at The Players on Gramercy Park South. The screen and Tony-nominated actor Antonio Banderas, will receive the “HOLA Rita Moreno Award for Excellence” at its annual HOLA Awards. Previous recipients of this award have been actors Jimmy Smits, Benjamin Bratt and Priscilla López.

“Latinos are in a wonderful place of forward momentum in the theatre world and we are proud to be
highlighting just some of their many accomplishments at the HOLA AWARDS,” shared Manuel Alfaro,
executive director of HOLA, a Hispanic arts service and advocacy organization that provides a variety of programs designed to serve Hispanic actors and the entertainment/communications industries.

Along with Antonio Banderas, HOLA will give special awards to
Nilo Cruz, 2003 Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright will receive “The Raúl Juliá HOLA Founders
Award”
Olga Merediz, Broadway actress, currently in MAN OF LA MANCHA, will receive the new “HOLA
Tespis Award”
María Celeste Arrarás, Telemundo journalist, will receive the “HOLA Ilka Award”
Antonia Rey, celebrated stage and screen actress will receive the “HOLA Life Achievement Award”

In addition, HOLA will present over 25 awards in the categories of musical and drama production,
director, actress, actor, supporting actor and supporting actress to recognize outstanding productions and performances in Hispanic Theatre over the past year. Works were chosen from a variety of productions from Repertorio Español, INTAR, the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre, and more.
