Fallout 3 Vault
Club Announcements
Fallout 3 is being developed by Bethesda Softworks and has
been released! The game is being developed for the PC, PS3 and 360,
with slight differences (such as finer camera control for the PC)
between versions. Some basics about the game:
- 3D using an upgraded version of the Oblivion engine
- Controllable camera with first-person, over-the-shoulder and even top-down modes
- Ron Perlman is back for the voice-overs
- No party but NPCs can join your side
- Branching dialogue trees, complex story and multiple endings (9-12)
- Set on the East Coast, specifically a destroyed Washington, D.C.
- Fallout is the design baseline, Fallout 2 less so, Fallout: Tactics and FO:POS are ignored.
- Radiation, destructible weapons, combinable items are new to the game
- Supermutants, Vaults and the Brotherhood of Steel all make an appearance
- PIPBoy 3000 functions like a radio, can play 40 classic blues/big band tracks
- Combat is real-time with pause; the V.A.T.S. system allows for hit-location targetting
- Karma system emphasizes grey, not black-or-white, morality
- Cannibalism is not such a sin any more, apparently
- Single-player only; no online or multiplayer
- All the dark humour and gore will be there; almost all NPCs are killable
- Dogmeat Lives!
- The SPECIAL system is being used for everything, including combat.
- The game will be rated M for Mature
- The official trailer is also the intro to the game
The BethSoft F3 forums are hopping with speculation, while the critics at Duck and Cover and No Mutants Allowed are snuffing out any hope for the game.
THE FALLOUT 3
FAQ AT THE VAULT IS NOW OPEN. Read it first, it's pretty
comprehensive. For those of you who may not remember the original
games I've written an overview
of what made them so great. Stay tuned to this emergency CONELRAD
