Steam Slashes Prices on id Software For the Weekend

50% off almost every id Software game on Valve's Steam network.

Nearly every id Software game on Valve's digital distribution network Steam will go for 50% off this weekend, the Half-Life developer announced today. This offer even applies to the id Super Pack, which includes everything from their earliest classics to more contemporary games like Doom 3 -- 22 games in all, for a measly $34.99. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars appears to be the only major id title not receiving the sale treatment, as its price is still listed at $29.99.

These weekend bargains on Steam have been particularly tantalizing as of late. Any takers? You know you wanna see what this Commander Keen business is all about.

Sales on Steam always tempt me, so I couldn't help but buy this one if not for anything other than Quake 3 Arena and Commander Keen.

Not a bad deal tbh... Unless you alrdy have Doom 3, Quake 4, etc.. I think I may have gone for it otherwise.

I still play doom3 and quake4 on linux. The performance is much better and it scales very nice. Doom3 is to this day a very fine game. I love the details and the effort they have put in the level-design. I sometimes reminded me of how SystemShock3 could have looked like for the first couple hours of gameplay.

The gameplay is very basic. It's a one trick pony since the very first FPS - but it does it well.

Quake4 although has it's failures and it is even more unfortunate because I love Raven Software and Hexen and Heretic2 have still high places in my shrine of games.

Imagine for a moment how superior Crysis would perform and look on a linux-rig if they had chosen OpenGL instead of DirectX!

Sure, people hate that game, but you cannot not call it a major id release.
