Three episodes: 'Superman in Exile', 'The Face and the Voice', 'The Whistling Bird"
1 October 2000 | by (Australia) – See all my reviews

Highly expressive acting by all actors from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Worth watching by anyone even if they are not 'Superman' fans. Excellent scriptwriting and direction; especially by Jackson Gillis who later worked on 'Perry Mason' and 'Columbo'. George Blair's direction is outstanding even though he has to work within the confines of a small television production. George Reeves is brilliant in all three episodes, but especially noteworthy are his dual role in 'The Face and the Voice' and his very human interpretation of Superman in 'Superman in Exile'. Noel Neill has a strong part in the latter episode bringing romance, youth and strength to the role of Lois Lane. Miss Neill has greater challenges, however, in other episodes of the series. The character actors are unforgettable (such as Stirling Holloway,Toni Carroll and Joseph Vitale in 'The Whistling Bird' and Leon Askin in Superman in Exile', whom film buffs will remember as the villain who plays tongue-twister word games with Danny Kaye in 'Knock on Wood' (1954). They and the other so-called B actors made Hollywood great and simply unforgettable. We'll never see the likes of them again. So, please watch and enjoy these three episodes. Savor the greatness that once reigned in Hollywood.
