Product Description

In Canada, a writer visits the Indian storyteller Pi Patel and asks him to tell his life story. Pi tells the story of his childhood in Pondicherry, India and the origin of his nickname. One day, his father, a zoo owner, explains that the municipality is no longer supporting the zoo and he has hence decided to move to Canada, where the animals the family owns would also be sold. They board on a Japanese cargo ship with the animals and out of the blue, there is a storm, followed by a shipwrecking. Pi survives in a lifeboat with a zebra, an orangutan, a hyena and a male Bengal tiger nicknamed Richard Parker. They are adrift in the Pacific Ocean, with aggressive hyena and Richard Parker getting hungry. Pi needs to find a way to survive.

The DVD stopped and stalled for 10-15 minutes midway. Apparently a big scratch on one side caused that. One star less in the review for that.

Re: the movie. It was gripping and a novel story line. I loved it. Loved the Indian theme; the imagination of the director and the cinematography. Its a very simple story line -- and to make a 2 hour movie from that is amazing. Loved the characters too. Best was Mr Richard Parder :D

Then you gotta love this movie.
I am Christoper Nolan fan. A great fan.
His movies made you think.
But Life of Pie in a simple two words ----------- Just Poetic.

I read the book in 2003 and was really looking forward to see it on the silver screen. For me this is a collector's items. Ang lee did a wonderful job that readers of Yann Martel's book will not be disappointed.
