422 million people have #diabetes‎‬  around the world. That’s almost four times the number of people living with diabetes than in 1980! Most of them live in developing countries, and factors driving this dramatic rise include overweight and obesity.
We dedicate #WorldHealthDay , 7 April, to this growing problem. We need to step up prevention and treatment of the disease. Together, we can beat diabetes.

Great news! Today, WHO declares the end of ‪#‎Ebola‬ virus transmission in ‪#‎Guinea‬. The country now enters a 90-day period of heightened surveillance to ensure that any new cases are identified quickly before they can spread to other people.
We commend the government and the people of Guinea.
WHO and the ‪#‎EbolaResponse‬ partners will continue to support Guinea during the heightened surveillance stage, and in its early efforts to restart and strengthen essential health services: http://goo.gl/ioEK3D

An estimated 3.7 billion people –two thirds of the global population under the age of 50– are infected with #herpes‬  simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). Herpes is a lifelong infection, which often has mild or no symptoms but can be detected by the presence of antibodies in the blood. Herpes simplex virus is categorized into two types: 1 and 2. Both are highly infectious and incurable. HSV-1 is primarily transmitted by oral-oral contact and in most cases causes orolabial herpes or “cold sores” around the mouth. Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) is almost entirely sexually transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, causing genital herpes: http://goo.gl/EjnCdX
