Transition your MCSA and MCSE on Windows Server 2003 skills to Windows Server 2008

April 22nd, 2008 by Patrick S

If you are a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) or a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) on Windows Server 2003, you can now transfer your skills to achieve multiple Microsoft Certified msft learningTechnology Specialist (MCTS) certifications or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) credentials on Windows Server 2008.

For the first time, the transition path is available before the product release. If you have a Windows Server 2008 certification on your resumé, you have an excellent opportunity to catch the eye of early adopter organizations. Microsoft Learning developed this transition path to recognize the investment and expertise you have demonstrated throughout your certification history—don’t miss your chance to take advantage of these new certifications.

Your path consists of one exam, which allows you to earn multiple Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certifications on Windows Server 2008.
First step: Take one exam to earn MCTS certification on Windows Server 2008

From there, you can complete the remaining requirements for one or both of the Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certifications for Windows Server 2008.
Your transition path from MCSA on Windows Server 2003 to MCITP
Your transition path from MCSE on Windows Server 2003 to MCITP

Because there is a significant technology gap between Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2008, only IT professionals with specific Microsoft Certifications on Windows Server 2003 can utilize these transition or upgrade paths. In addition, there is no upgrade path from messaging or security specializations to Windows Server 2008 certifications.

Check out all the details here:
Thanks Microsoft :)

Life at Microsoft – Part 1

May 26th, 2006 by Patrick Elliott

After two weeks working here at Microsoft’s Redmond, Washington campus, I’ve been told I need to write a blog post :) So here goes..

Two weeks ago I flew to Seattle from Richmond, Virginia to take a contract with Microsoft.  My job is to process incoming feedback and bugs from the Technical Beta programs, and to analyze that feedback and coordinate it with the appropriate development teams, as well as test leads for the Windows Beta such as Jeff DeVos, Paul Donnelly, Sam White, Todd Frederickson, Tenny Cho, and others.

I’m still waiting to move into a room I rented starting on June 1, so until then I’ve alternated staying with a couple of guys on the team — and one night I even stayed in the luxiorious “Hotel Microsoft” — I have a sleeping bag (picture below), and ordered a pizza delivered to the front of my building — it’s truley an awesome company to work for :)

As many of you (okay, mostly all of you) know, we shipped Beta 2 of the Windows Vista operating system to partners and testers on May 24th.  We’re as excited internally (if not more so) about getting that out to you guys and hearing your thoughts and feedback on it.  I’m actually writing this blog post from a x64 build 5384.4 (same as you guys) machine right now, and I can say it rocks — we’ve truely come a long way on Vista, but it’s mainly due to the great feedback you guys give.  So on behalf of myself and all of us here at Microsoft, thanks :)

Anyway, I’ll write more as time permits –

Patrick E made it safe and sound to Redmond.

May 12th, 2006 by Patrick S

Since Patrick E won’t be round here for a while (while he works in his new Job at Microsoft in Seattle as a Software Test Engineer II for the Windows Longhorn / Vista Beta Team) I have taken it upon myself to let you know that Patrick E has made it to Redmond safe and sound.

Patrick starts on Monday so if you are a Windows Vista beta tester do him a favour and bombard him with bugs 😉

Just hired by Microsoft!

May 10th, 2006 by Patrick Elliott

Hi everyone – as many of you know, I was recently hired for a contract position as a Software Test Engineer II for the Windows Longhorn / Vista Beta Team with Microsoft.

I really really can’t thank my friends and fellow beta testers enough, without you guys, I wouldn’t have this job, so please know how much I really appreciate it.

During my term with Microsoft – I won’t be posting on MSBLOG.  I haven’t been told I can’t, I just see it as a bit of a conflict of interest.   I will, however, be available VERY FREQUENTLY to talk about any and everything I can talk about with the other great guys who run this site!!   So, this is not a goodbye, but rather – an I will post later this year :)

Thanks, and I really appreciate you visiting our blog. We’ve worked really hard to try and make it the best.

Microsoft Enterprise Engineering Center is hiring!

April 15th, 2006 by Jabez Gan [MVP]

There’s a  job opening in Microsoft EEC! Wanting to work for Microsoft, and you have the following qualifications? Read on!

EEC Hot Job Opening available immediately

We have a position turning over.  Our AD expert is moving on to MSN for a developer role.  In a perfect world we would like to fill the position with another hard hitting AD authority.  That area of expertise will be more weighted in the selection process.  Below is the announcement sans the desire for specific Active Directory skills.  I turned off the comments to this entry so respond how you like.  I will add the MSFT public job code in the future but the better route is straight to me…   Jeff  Swift
