Sarah Paulson Lands Double Emmy Nominations: ‘Now I Know What Allison Janney Feels Like!’

3 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Will this finally be Sarah Paulson’s year?

The “American Horror Story” veteran nabbed two Emmy nominations this year — one for “Ahs: Hotel” and another for her show-stopping performance in “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.”

Paulson has never won an Emmy. She’s been nominated four times prior to this year, three times for various seasons of “Horror Story” and another for HBO’s “Game Change.”

Year after year, critics have questioned how Paulson has not yet walked away with a golden statue (especially after playing conjoined twins Bette and Dot on “American Horror Story: Freak Show”), and with her performance as Marcia Clark in “People v. O.J.,” many are saying 2016 is the year Paulson will win her much-deserved Emmy — and, she could walk away with two.

“Now I know what Allison Janney feels like!” Paulson quipped to Variety on a phone call Thursday morning, shortly »

Kobe Bryant on His Retirement: ‘The Biggest Challenge Is Finding What Comes Next’

3 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Three months after his retirement, Kobe Bryant is trying to make his way as a Hollywood producer.

“I’m passionate about storytelling,” Bryant said Thursday afternoon at the Variety-Sports Illustrated Entertainment Summit in Los Angeles. “How do we tell stories that jump from the page? That gets me going.”

Bryant, in a half-hour discussion with Sports Illustrated senior writer Lee Jenkins, said his focus is on his Kobe Inc. studio operation. He cut Jenkins off in the middle of his question about becoming a basketball coach, evoking laughs from the several hundred attendees.

“Nope, I will not coach basketball,” Bryant said. “I’ll show my kids some tips but that’s about it. I love teaching and I just think my personality is that if I’m going to do something, I’m going to do it 100%. So I can coach a team of 12 players or I can make stories that reach a larger audience. »
