10 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

With production scheduled to begin next month, the cast of 20th Century Fox's Wolverine 3 is growing larger and larger. Today we have word that British actors Stephen Merchant and Richard E. Grant have joined the sequel, alongside Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Boyd Holbrook, who is playing the main villain. No details were given for Stephen Merchant's character, but Richard E. Grant is said to be playing a villainous mad scientist.

Deadline reports that more actors are in various stages of negotiations for the superhero adventure, although no specific names were mentioned, or what characters they may be playing. ‘Simpsons’ Ep Reveals Prince Almost Guest Starred in a Special Episode

25 April 2016 11:27 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Picture if you will the picture of an episode of “The Simpsons” revolving around Prince. Because it was almost a real thing that actually happened. Following the death of the “Purple Rain” music legend at age 57 on Thursday, “Simpsons” executive producer Al Jean revealed script pages from an episode that would have featured the Purple One as a guest star, but alas was never produced. In a series of Twitter posts over the weekend, Jean revealed that Prince had misgivings about appearing on the episode. One possible objection? A joke about his much-maligned film “Under the Cherry Moon.” Also Read: Prince. »

Read Script Pages From Prince's Rejected Cameo On 'The Simpsons'

25 April 2016 11:10 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Last week, we lost a musical genius and cultural titan, with the passing of Prince. The legacy he left behind him is still being measured, but needless to say it was large, and didn't just touch upon music, but film as well. "Purple Rain" brought Prince's personality and blistering songs to the big screen, and it's still mind-boggling that Warner Bros. ran with his utterly bonkers (and fantastic) soundtrack for Tim Burton's "Batman." However, Prince always moved to the beat of his drum. As the music industry turned to streaming, Prince steadfastly kept most of his catalog off those services, and when it came to "The Simpsons" — another cultural force — he declined to join other celebrities, artists, authors, and musicians from appearing on the show. The magazine has also debuted a newsstand cover, which features the iconic ghost Slimer.

The Last Laugh Review [Tribeca 2016]

18 April 2016 8:45 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

There’s nothing funny about the Holocaust, which is probably why some comedians think it’s about time to start making jokes about it. The Last Laugh, a documentary by director and cinematographer Ferne Pearlstein, reveals, dissects, and discusses the subject of taboo humor in general and the Holocaust in particular. Pearlstein gathers together interviews with numerous comedians, writers, producers, and activists, including several Holocaust survivors, to present their perspective on what can be joked about and what cannot and where, if anywhere, comedy must draw the line.

Auschwitz survivor Renee Firestone represents the major argument for laughing in the face of overwhelming evil, as she recalls her experience in the camps and afterwards. She discusses the use of humor within the camps, up to and including cabaret productions by performers that tacitly made fun of the Nazis and the SS guards. While Firestone is the most personally profiled survivor, »

Premiering a month to the day after the SXSW bow of Sausage Party, a dirty-joke-stuffed animated feature with Sony and hitmakers Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg behind it, Chris Prynoski's Nerdland might be in danger of drowning in its wake if the two were anything alike. But while both are 'toons with a high raunch quotient, the former movie aims (very successfully) for a broad appeal while this one seems pleased to lurk in the margins, playing to those for whom Adult Swim ranks far higher than The Simpsons.
