Disney has signed TV writer Bill Kunstler to adapt the screenplay for the movie version of “Castle Hangnail,” the children’s book it set up last year with Ellen DeGeneres.

Kunstler was a consulting producer on CBS’ “Mom,” a co-executive producer on CBS’ The Crazy Ones,” a co-exec producer on “Accidentally on Purpose” and a consultant on “How to Live with Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life).”

DeGeneres, who stars in Disney’s blockbuster “Finding Dory,” is producing “Castle Hangnail” with Jeff Kleeman, her partner at A Very Good Production.

The story, written by Ursula Vernon, centers on a 12-year-old girl who shows up on Castle Hangnail’s doorstep to fill the vacancy for a wicked witch at a time that the castle desperately needs a master or face being decommissioned by the Board of Magic.
