On September 26, 2014, President Obama, National Security Advisor Rice, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Monaco, and Secretaries Kerry, Hagel, and Burwell met with Ministers and senior officials from 44 countries and leading international organizations to make specific commitments to implement the GHSA and to work toward a commitment to assist West Africa with needed global health security capacity within 3 years.

Ministers of Health, Agriculture and other dignitaries from dozens of nations, including the United States, met in Jakarta, Indonesia August 20-21, 2014, to solidify plans for advancing the GHSA.

The meeting highlighted the multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder approach to effectively managing outbreaks of infectious diseases and related health threats. The meeting also included a special focus on Zoonotic diseases, within the context of prevention, detection and response to emerging disease.

Finland hosted the first Commitment Development Meeting to discuss strategic, measurable actions that nations can take to advance the nine objectives of the GHSA that directly support the WHO International Health Regulations (IHR) and other relevant global health security frameworks.

Finland hosted the first Commitment Development Meeting to discuss strategic, measurable actions that nations can take to advance the nine objectives of the GHSA that directly support the WHO International Health Regulations (IHR) and other relevant global health security frameworks.

More than thirty countries; WHO; the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO); World Organization for Animal Health (OIE); and the EU gathered in Helsinki, Finland, on May 5-6, 2014, bringing together leaders from multiple sectors needed to make progress on the GHS Agenda.  These included health, foreign affairs, development, agriculture, defense, and national security.  Attendees discussed actions their nations can take to advance objectives of the Global Health Security Agenda..

On February 13, 2014, the United States joined 28 other countries, WHO, FAO, and OIE, to accelerate progress toward a world safe and secure from the threat of infectious disease, and committing to the goals of the GHSA.
