8 Golden Age Characters Who Should Appear In The Arrowverse

8 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The unfortunate side effect of two separate DC superhero universes running alongside each other on different mediums – the DC Extended Universe and the crop of TV shows known as the Arrowverse – is that they often can’t use the same characters. The TV series, in particular, have many of the big DC heroes off-limits. This could be seen as a major weakness, but thankfully, the Arrowverse has managed to turn it into a strength.

Rather than adapting the big hitters (with the possible exception of The Flash), the Arrowverse regularly showcases lesser-known characters from the comics. Most of these are long-running or half-forgotten characters who originated in DC’s early years, the so called Golden Age of Comics. These include Black Canary, Atom, Jay Garrick, Hawkman and Vandal Savage.

San Diego Comic-Con 2016: Your Complete Guide

In 1971, the 300-or-so people pawing through cardboard boxes of dusty comic books couldn't have possibly imagined that they were standing in what would become the cradle of nerd civilization. From a small meetup for diehard geeks, San Diego Comic-Con has grown into one of the largest and most feverishly anticipated pop-cultural events of the year. Thousands upon thousands of industry types, journalists, the devout faithful (and the suckers they've handsomely paid to stand in line as proxies) and cosplaying fans of all stripes will descend upon the city from July »

Here are 3 reasons we can't wait to see Malcolm Merlyn all over the DC Comics Universe.

2016 Comic-Con Film & TV Schedule

10 July 2016 12:52 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The full film and TV line-up for this year's San Diego Comic Con has been released and more than ever before the balance has shifted from movies to television with many major shows and upcoming new series all getting panels or major screenings. Films on the other hand are few and far between, in fact Friday - once a film haven in Hall H - has given way completely to TV panels.

The highlights this year are obviously on Saturday in Hall H with Warners doing their panel in the morning which will likely include looks at "Wonder Woman," "The Lego Batman Movie," "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" and if we're lucky sneak peeks from "Kong: Skull Island" and "Justice League". At the end of the day is Marvel Studios' panel which this year is very promising with both "Doctor Strange" and "Guardians of the Galaxy 2 »

John Barrowman’s Malcolm Merlyn promoted to series regular across all of The CW’s DC shows

8 July 2016 4:16 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

John Barrowman fans rejoice, as it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of his Malcolm Merlyn on The CW, with the British actor signing a deal to appear as a series regular across all of the network’s Arrowverse shows.

Barrowman’s deal is similar to that signed by Wentworth Miller back in May, and will see him popping up across Arrow, The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. It’s unclear whether Supergirl is included, although it’s expected that the former CBS show will be brought into the same universe as the rest of the Arrowverse.

Malcolm Merlyn featured as a recurring character in the first two seasons of Arrow, before being pushed up to a series regular. Barrowman also reprised the role for a guest appearance on The Flash during the big crossover that served as a launching point for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. »

John Barrowman will now appear on all CW superhero shows

Mike Cecchini Jul 9, 2016

John Barrowman is now a series regular across Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow.

Get ready for a lot more Malcolm Merlyn in the 2016-2017 season. John Barrowman has now been granted series regular status across the range of CW superhero TV shows, from Arrow and The Flash to Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow.

This is the second time this has happened to a beloved villain/anti-hero. Wentworth Miller's Captain Cold, who was a series regular on the first season of Legends of Tomorrow now has series regular status across all four of the CW superhero shows, as well.

So while we have to figure the bulk of his "series regular" requirements will be met with episodes of Arrow Season 5, it does open up the overall DC TV universe to many more smaller ways to interact. And really, after five years, Malcolm Merlyn is »

John Barrowman Signs Deal to Officially Take Over The CW

8 July 2016 1:11 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

You know how much we love John Barrowman, right?

Wouldn't it be awesome if his character, Malcolm Merlyn, was wreaking havoc across the DC universe on The CW?

Well, that's exactly what Greg Berlanti and The CW thought, too, when they agreed Barrowman as Merlyn should ruffle feathers across place and time on all the DC shows airing on the network as a series regular.

TVLine first reported the news, and there aren't many details.

While they noted that Barrowman, like Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart aka Captain Cold) before him would appear across all Berlanti executive produced series, including Arrow, The Flash and DC's Legends of Tomorrow, there was no mention of new acquisition Supergirl.

That, despite the series moving to The CW and being executive produced by Berlanti.

It would be fun to see some different sides to Malcolm Merlyn by way of Legends of Tomorrow, that's for sure. »

Arrow Star John Barrowman Upped To A Series Regular In All Of The CW's DC TV Shows

8 July 2016 12:58 PM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Following the death of Captain Cold in Legends of Tomorrow's season finale, it was revealed that Wentworth Miller had signed an unprecedented deal making him a series regular in not just one of The CW's DC Comics adaptations, but all of them. Now, TV Line reveals that John Barrowman has done the same thing, meaning he'll be a fixture of not just Arrow, but the network's other properties too. That means we could end up seeing Malcolm Merlyn/The Dark Archer in everything from Supergirl to The Flash, but why the character is getting this expanded role remains to be seen. It was back in May that executive producer Greg Berlanti explained: "What it really emulates to us is the comic books themselves, where there really are a cast of characters. In success, we hope to continue with other characters finding their way across all the shows." It's an interesting approach, »

Supergirl Season 1 Will Air On The CW Ahead Of Season 2 Premiere

6 July 2016 7:23 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The CW has announced today that the entire first season of Supergirl will air on the network this summer before the show makes the leap over to the network for its second year in October. They originally passed on Supergirl because they didn’t want to become known solely as a channel airing superhero properties, but with the Girl of Steel struggling on CBS – which was always an odd fit – it has now been moved to The CW where it will join Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash.

It remains to be seen whether or not the hero is going to somehow end up in the same world as the one that the heroes in the properties above call home, but it’s a smart move by The CW to give fans a chance to catch up with or check out Supergirl for the first time.
