Fujifilm adds new lenses and teleconverter to official X-Series roadmap

A lot of us find APS-C to be a good middle ground between size and quality.

Yes Canon just announced a 50MP FF.

It comes:
A) With the same DR as the original 5D MKIII
B) With a maximum natively high ISO of 6400
C) Incredible large RAW files
D) Shadow banding (Not confirmed but highly probable as all Canons suffer from this)

24MP APS-C is approximately the same pixel size as 50MP full frame. Some 4.1 uM. What Canon did was exactly that. Blow up a 24MP APC sized sensor to a FF sized sensor.

If you want better IQ then the D810 or A7r are still the better choice over the new 5D megaload.

Next to that who is going to use 50MP?
If you need to crop that much you must be a lazy photographer not caring about framing in the first place or either be printing each and every picture at A0 size.

The latter is highly unlikely.

Using a D810 myself as well I often find the 36MP too much and scale images down to 16 - 20MP in post for better file handling and post processing.

Fuji is not making any mistakes but carefully investigate the market and found its niche.

Their target market is not the professionals. Had they made a FF, the price would have been too expensive.

Fuji and Oly are staying competitive. A middle weight fighter doesn't jump up to heavey weight.

True about the Canon. But my Fuji XT1 was a great addition to the 6D and I'm not missing more mega pixels. Fuji seems to be going in the direction that a lot of people want, and having all this variety is a great thing.

Another "bigger", "more is better" forum fighter. Maybe Anastigmat should consider shooting LARGE FORMAT exclusively.

Because we all know megapixels are the only thing to care about, right?

The Fuji APS-C sensor produces better results then the last generation of FF sensors and yet has small lenses.
Large lenses are unavoidable with FF.
I think it's the perfect sensor size for most camera types

To feilong: I understand that Fuji are waiting for the new X-Pro 2 sensor development to be be finished and then made available. Fuji don't make their own sensors, don't blame them.

I think people need to get used to longer life cycles from now on.

Even though X-Pro 2 is due for replacement by a newer camera. The digital camera market has been matured. I am pretty sure longer life-cycles will become the norm over the coming few years.

The A7 series AF is not as good as the fuji xt1. Fuji beats any of the sony cameras in image quality except the A7 series.

I meant to compare the a6000 vs the XT-1, which is priced about half of the XT-1 and the IQ is rated as one one of the best if not the best APS-C sensor on the market. And Fujifilm's X-Trans sensor is not exactly friendly with Lightroom which is not Fujifilm's fault, but still. The a77 II and a99 are not a7's and beats the Fujifilm sensor hands down.

There's the Fuji 60mm f/2.4 which is a pretty great portrait lens in addition to having a useful 1:2 macro.

It has a reputation of having abysmally slow autofocus, but it's not actually true. It may have originally been like that, but both the lens and all bodies have since had major AF performance increasing firmware upgrades. I haven't had a problem with my X-E2.

@ crwl ... Nail on the head. The 60mm on an xe-1 or 2 is absolutely inexpensive and everything Jhva is looking for.

I agee, the article is poorly written. First thing I wondered when reading it is, why no mention about the 16mm?

It could have been writte in a slightly more helpful way, by not assuming every reader was completely up to date with previous announcements.

If I recall correctly (and someone who might know better can reply if I'm wrong), "R" is meant to indicate the presence of an aperture ring. For example, the XC lenses and the 27mm pancake do not have one, and there is no "R" in their naming.

To photofisher - they still cost less than the equivalents from Nikon and Canon.

A) Which says nothing because that could be the only lens you've ever owned, for all we know; and,
B) Assuming that we shouldn't take your phrase completely literally, but instead as a general statement meaning that a 72 year old Leica is one of the sharpest lenses around, I doubt that.

Furthermore: no electronics, no autofocus, no shutter priority exposure, fabulous. In 72 years the Fuji lens will be in the trash and the Leica lens will be a 144 year old piece of obsolete technology in some future hipster's drawer. So what? You and I will both be dead and I'll have taken a lot more properly focused and exposed pictures than you.

I agree, I don't expect an electronics filled modern lens to last as long as an older manual one.

@Radcliffe: Not defending. Stating a fact. Same thing goes for Nikon, Sigma, Canon, and all other current AF lenses that follow RoHS protocol.

@Beaver: Don't be stupid. I've probably sold more lenses than you've ever owned. I also test camera gear for manufacturers including lenses.

And why couldn't a 72 year old lens be sharper than many new lenses? There are a lot of crap lenses out there.

Furthermore, I started out with no electronics, no autofocus, no auto exposure. I can guarantee I'll have taken just as many properly focused, properly exposed images as you and probably more. Not to mention the fact that just because your images are properly focused and exposed doesn't mean they're GOOD.

If my lens hasn't become obsolete in 72 years I don't see why it will be obsolete in another 72 years. I guarantee there will still be film cameras around that will use the technology (if civilization lasts that long). You'll be lucky to have one these Fuji lenses last 15 years.

@kwa_photo: It might just be time for Fuji to ditch the X-Trans sensor. As the resolution in their sensor climbs, the benefits of the X-Trans over Bayer diminishes. And with a return to Bayer, they can hopefully improve their video capabilities as well.
