I have no qualms with the magazine itself, they put out great content...but the digital version is an extremely lazy effort. It is not formatted to fit the Kindle Fire screen, but rather displays horizontally (bars on the top and bottom), making it hard to read without constantly zooming in. I would equate it to reading nothing more than the equivalent of a PDF file.

It appears that zero effort was made to provide content that looks good or takes advantage of a tablet screen...oh, and while they're at it, they charge you more for the digital version than for the print version. I am disappointed because you would think that they would recognize the emerging and ever growing market of tablet users who want digital content over print. As such, you would think that they would also put even a minor amount of effort to create a unique tablet experience for their magazine. Instead it looks like they just sent over the magazine files used for the print version and slapped it onto the Fire, with little concern over how it displays or the subscriber experience.

To survive, magazines need to tailor their content for the best possible chance to gain subscriptions - digital or print - in my opinion, the digital version is a fail.

I've enjoyed every PC Gamer issue from the beginning, still have every issue. Fun for the trips down memory lane. Many changes along the way, and this proved to be a nice addition. Long-term, I plan on keeping my print subscription and enjoying the portability of the Kindle Fire edition as well. It's just as colorful and readable as always. The January 2012 electronic issue showed up on the Fire the same day the print issue showed up, very nice, if a bit coincidental!

First, the electronic edition of PC Gamer is an exact copy of the print edition. Nothing has been removed and nothing has been dumbed down for e-book readers. The content looks great and navigation is super easy. Not only can you flick through pages but there is a table of contents that allows you to jump to specific articles. There is also a mini-page view at the bottom of each page that lets you flip through pages quickly. The design is well thought out and incredibly easy to use.

On the Kindle Fire, most text was readable without zoom. However, there were more than a few pages that needed a pinch to zoom to become readable. On a bigger tablet, this might not be a problem. It wasn't a big deal for me and the app automatically zooms out when you flip the page.

When subscribing, Amazon delivers the current edition to your Kindle Fire in less than 5 minutes over wi-fi.

PC Gamer has a reputation of delivering high quality content and tools. They lived up to their reputation with their electronic edition. This magazine is a steal at $1.99/month.

I finally got a tablet for myself, the new iPad, but soon wondered what niche it was unbeatable in. Not games (PS3,Xbox), not work (PC, Mac, Linux), not reading normal text (Kindle, iRiver). Graphics-heavy magazines, though -- I've never seen magazines look this good. The original magazines look poor compared to the same magazines on the ultra-resolution iPad. (I also like the new iPad's dictation feature).

So, PC vs iPad -- it looks fantastic. PC Gamer is one of the few print subscriptions I've kept, but after seeing this, I'm going to digital only. Some reasons I've kept it:
1. No shock ads. All the ads in an issue are either interesting or skippable, but never nauseating. I wish other magazines would do this.
2. There is always some new game I've never heard of that interests me.
3. Reviews and previews of the games I've heard of are written up well, with plenty of pictures
4. Some sort of clever aside is on every page. Just about every inset picture has a fun caption.
5. Indie games get covered, as well as downloadable content.

Heck, may as well make a guess. DROD: Gunthro and the Epic Blunder is an indie game coming out soon, a follow-up to the greatest puzzle game series of all time. I'll bet PC Gamer is on-the-ball enough to cover it.

If you have a PC, and play games on it, this magazine is highly recommended. It's been one of my favorites for over a decade, and the digital version looks even better than the print version (on the new ultra-resolution iPad).

EDIT -- One drawback to the digital version is that it arrives more than a week after the print edition. If you like getting a magazine when it comes out, stick with the print version.

I've been a long time reader of the print version of PC gamer and have been trying to find the best way to enjoy it on my ipad. I like kindle magazines because of the cross platform compatibility, however I compared several digital versions of PC Gamer and the kindle version was the worst in terms of quality. When you zoom in on page view the quality gets worse. For example, when I zoom in on the Coverleaf version (pdf) or the apple newsstand version, the text is still perfectly clear. When I zoom in on the amazon version the quality just gets worse and the text looks blurry / fuzzy. You can read in text view which looks like a kindle, however it's not very well laid out and loses the magazine feel. There are many versions of pc gamer in digital format and unfortunately I found the kindle version, at least in page view, to be the worst. If you like reading your magazines in a kindle book type format, this may be fine for you.

At the moment,I must unfortunately rate this lower than I want to. I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy 7 tab 2.0 with android 4.0.3 and the most up to date kindle app. For some reason,I cannot read this magazine, or any of my magazine bought from Amazon in page view mode. I can only access this, along with my other magazine subscriptions in text view. I've tried asking for help, but all I get is a nice email telling me to call them. I'm a soldier in Afghanistan...this is not exactly the easiest task for me, let alone a priority. My buddies kindle fire displays his magazine perfectly...why is mine any different? I've checked all the settings btw...no settings exist to toggle page/text view. Until this is rectified, or until someone can help me with this issue, I cannot recommend ANY magazine subscriptions through Amazon even when their product claims that the "Kindle Edition"supports page view and will look like the print version.

They staff at PC gamer has continued to improve the quality and content of the magazine over the years, despite a smaller staff size in response to cost pressures, etc. If you want reliable insight to the best video game platform out there (the PC), then you will want to read this magazine! I just switched from a long time paper subscriber to the kindle edition when my subscription lapsed as I really like the convenience of kindle magazines, book marks, etc.

It's a great deal, but seriously i can't read it on the Kindle for PC App? I don't have a kindle fire and reading it on my phone can be a little straining on my eyes. I'm also curious as to how the promotional offers work through PC Gamer, Like the Planetside 2 Beta Keys for April are going to work. Either way i'm satisfied yet disappointed in the Sub.

Everything seems to deteriorate in value over time, but this was one thing I was hoping would remain golden. I've been looking into this magazine periodically for a long time, and it seems like they aren't getting anything that anybody doesn't know anymore. They used to bring a lot of things that weren't common knowledge, but with my limited time browsing for games, I already knew everything there was in the last article I read that was really of interest.

Even though websites may be taking over from traditional publishing, having a product of a team of writers and designers to flick through on a tablet works well. The price could be a little lower considering they are primarily advertising supported (or at the very least, should be) but on the whole I'm very happy with this subscription.
