SPOILERS AHEAD: ’Penny Dreadful’: Fresh Off Its Most Shocking Death, The Show Is Officially Coming To An End

7 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Spoilers ahead for the Season 3 finale of “Penny Dreadful.”

Is this really “the end” for “Penny Dreadful” fans? Last night’s Season 3 finale closed out with a genuinely shocking death, as leading lady Eva Green’s Vanessa Ives character was unexpectedly shot to death by John Hartnett’s werewolf character Ethan Chandler. The death, final as it seemed to be, was made even more clearly, well, final, when the show closed out with a funeral for Vanessa and a title card that read “The End.” (In the world of television and movies, deaths hardly ever seem to really mark the end, so forgive us for leaning so hard in to the finality of it all. This never happens!)

So,with the death of Vanessa, is the entire show itself really over? Yes.

TV Review: ‘Roadies’

37 minutes ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Remember concept albums? They still exist, but not quite in the form they took in the ‘70s and ‘80s, when rock musicians made double albums because a single album couldn’t hold all their great ideas. The problem was, in those bloated behemoths, there were rarely enough inspired notions to power one album; most double and triple albums were made to pump up the egos of the people who created them, and those gatefold sleeves, when actually acquired by members of the public, were often put to other uses.

The lumbering beast known as the double album has largely gone the way of the dinosaurs, but one can revisit that kind of tedious sprawl in “Roadies,” which feels like a Spotify playlist in search of a reason to exist.

The first episode of “Roadies” is more tolerable than the even longer pilot for the similarly themed ’70s rock drama “Vinyl,” but »

Sony Plans Animated ‘Ghostbusters’ TV Show

2 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

A rebooted version of “Ghostbusters” doesn’t hit theaters until next month, but Sony Pictures is already plunging ahead with other ways to keep the paranormal investigators busy.

The studio’s animation division is planning a television series entitled “Ghostbuster: Ecto Force.” The show is being spearheaded by Ivan Reitman, the director of the original 1984 blockbuster, and will focus on a new generation of Ghostbusters. In addition, Sony Animation announced that Bob Persichetti will direct an animated Spider-Man film. Persichetti previously oversaw the story on “Puss in Boots” and “The Little Prince »
