What's with the equivlence issue all the time ?

Seems like some people always bring up the issue of equivalence when they discuss  a crop sensor camera.  It's ridiculous.  I heard it once and so that's enough. In the film days I shot with a Pentax 67 and the depth of field was of course shallower than 35 mm.  No one talked about equivalence.  They might mention that depth of field is shallower with medium format but that was about it.  I think people on gear sites tend to get a bit obsessive about things.
