I was shooting killer whales jumping using my NEX 7. Looking through the viewfinder, I generally missed the jump, with the electronic lag adding to the time to close and then open the shutter.

I ended up holding the camera at arms length and looking at the scene both on the screen (for framing) and directly (for timing). My success rate went way up.

A bit off topic but the new Sony a6300 has 120hz EVF which early reports are saying it is much like an optical viewfinder with that fast of a refresh rate. Much better than the old NEXs

Here's hoping Sigma has a high enough refresh rate on their EVF.

Sigma EVF has a very short delay, which might be more important than refresh rate for moving subjects.

A high refresh rate will have your moving subjects 'looking smooth'.

A short delay will have your lens pointing in the right direction.
