Within one year of equipment being placed on the market, Canon provides all reuse and recycling facilities an end-of-life (EOL) characterization report.

EOL characterization reports provide information for identifying the presence and location of all materials and components exhibiting hazardous characteristics or requiring special handling within a product. These reports also contain guidance for the effective processing of the materials identified in Directive 2002/96/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Annex II.

The EOL characterization reports for all Canon EPEAT-registered* products are available here:

EPEAT® End-of-Life Characterization Reports

*EOL characterization reports are available for EPEAT-registered product within one year of being placed on the market.

Canon offers a nationwide take-back service for proper end-of-life management of EPEAT-registered and Non-EPEAT registered products via Canon Virginia Inc. (CVI), an R2 Certified Electronics Recycler.

Canon also offers a take-back program for the following programs managed by either Canon or a Canon-authorized agent:

  • Management of leased products where either Canon or Canon’s authorized agent retains legal ownership.

  • Trade-in/Exchange programs where the customer surrenders the product to the Canon (or their authorized agent) in return for compensation or replacement product.

  • Product service and/or limited warranty programs, operated by the either Canon or a contractual agent, where a product (or similar product) is returned to a customer.

Commercial E-Waste Take-back Program (Institutional Products)

Customers with products and components that have reached end-of life (e-waste) are encouraged to recycle locally through an R2-certified electronics recycler. However, whenever local recycling via a R2 certified electronics recycler is not feasible, customers may utilize Canon’s Commercial E-Waste Take-back Program.

Via this program, all EPEAT and non-EPEAT-registered Canon-branded products, including residual equipment and components derived from those products[1], may be recycled via CVI’s R2 certified recycling facility.

EPEAT registered institutional models include:

  • Canon imageRUNNER / imageRUNNER ADVANCE / imageRUNNER LBP

  • Canon LASER CLASS Facsimile

  • Canon imageFORMULA Document / Check Scanner

  • Canon varioPRINT

To utilize this program, customers, including dealers, may send shipments of end-of-life products to the following address:

Canon Commercial E-Waste Take-back Program
120 Enterprise Drive
Newport News, VA 23603

While shipping arrangements and expenses are the customer’s responsibility, Canon will assume the responsibility and cost for processing upon arrival to the CVI R2 certified recycling facility.

Consumer E-waste Take-back Programs (Canon imageCLASS and Canon PIXMA)

Similar to the end-of-life disposal of institutional products, consumers and authorized service facilities (ASF’s) may send end-of-life Canon-branded consumer products, as well as any residual parts and components derived from such products to our CVI R2 recycling facility in Virginia. While the cost of recycling will be covered by Canon USA, consumers and ASF’s will only incur a low, flat fee to cover shipping costs to CVI.

Additionally, Canon has a National Consumer Products Recycling Program for all Canon branded consumer that provides for recycling at a certified recycling facility. For more information, click the link below.
