CW Reveals Fall Premiere Dates: ‘The Flash’ Kicks Things Off

The Flash” will kick off The CW’s fall season with a Tuesday, Oct. 4 premiere, the broadcast network announced Friday. New dramedy “No Tomorrow” will follow the Season 3 debut of “The Flash” on Tuesday, while the Season 5 premiere of “Arrow” airs at 8 p.m. Et the following night, Wednesday, Oct. 5, followed by new drama “Frequency” at 9 p.m.. Common to Star in ‘Black Samurai’ TV Series (Exclusive)

Common is set to star in a television adaptation of “Black Samurai,” Variety has learned exclusively.

The TV project, currently in development, is based on Marc Olden’s 1974 book series, which inspired the 1977 film of the same name. Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA is attached as an exec producer.

Producers are currently shopping the project. Once a network is attached, the search for a writer and director will begin. With Common attached to star, the hot project is already garnering much interest.

Black Samurai” follows the story of Robert Sand (played by Common) who is rescued by a Japanese samurai master and trained for seven years. After suffering from vicious racism in the military, and seeing his teacher and fellow samurai killed before his eyes by terrorists, Robert Sand becomes a killing machine, out to destroy the corrupt powers who had taken the lives of his friends.

Ron Lester, best known to TV audiences as Michael ‘Sugar Daddy’ Bernardino on The WB’s Popular, died Friday of kidney and liver failure, according to multiple reports. He was 45.

Lester’s credits also included a recurring stint on the late, great Freaks and Geeks and a co-starring role in 1999’s Varsity Blues.

According to TMZ, the Georgia native had been hospitalized in Dallas for the past four months.

“I will remember Ron as the sweetest most loving guy who would hug you until you couldn’t breathe,” Leslie Grossman, Lester’s co-star on Popular, shared on Twitter late Friday. »

Ron Lester, the “Varsity Blues” actor who struggled with obesity throughout his life, died Friday in Dallas. He was 45. The Georgia-born actor had been hospitalized for about four months and had been battling liver and kidney problems.

His agent Dave Bradley posted on Facebook that he was not in pain and that his fiancee was with him.

Lester played Billy Bob in the 1999 football movie “Varsity Blues,” which also starred Paul Walker and James Van Der Beek, and also appeared in “Not Another Teen Movie” and “Good Burger.”

On TV, he had a recurring role on the series “Popular” and played Seidleman on “Freaks and Geeks.” He also guested on “CSI: NY” and “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.”

Tipping the scales at 508 pounds, Lester nearly died after having gastric bypass surgery but recovered and lost more than 300 pounds. However, he was not in demand to play the “fat guy” roles after his extreme weight loss. “Surgery »

Three-time Emmy winner and screenwriter Bill Richmond, who teamed with Carol Burnett and Jerry Lewis, died on June 4 at home in Calabasas. He was 94.

Richmond was nominated for five primetime Emmys for writing on “The Carol Burnett Show.” He shared three wins for outstanding writing in a comedy/variety or music series in 1974, 1975, and 1978. He also received a WGA award for the comedy/variety series in 1975.

Richmond was also the co-writer with Jerry Lewis for movie comedies “The Nutty Professor,” “The Ladies Man,” and “The Big Mouth” and four others. He also made several cameo appearances in Lewis’ films, such as portraying Stan Laurel in “The Bellboy” and the piano player in “The Patsy.”

Over his long career Richmond wrote episodes of “Blossom,” “All in the Family,” “Three’s Company,” “Welcome Back, Kotter” and many other shows. He was head writer on “The Tim Conway Show.”
