500px fraud - not compensated for images stolen

Last week I received a message from 500px that 4 of my images had been bought, only to learn yesterday that the sales were fraudulent.

As you can imagine, I was upset with this news, but even more so when I leanred that the images had been downloaded.

I asked 500px if I would be paid, and they said that photographers are only paid for sales completed.

I was outraged as I feel that 500px is responsible for maintaining security of artists' property, and that if any images are stolen, this is a breach in their system, and that artists should be compensated in the same way as if a store were robbed.

I wanted to share this to make people aware of how 500px handles such situations and would be curious for any thoughts on how to handle this issue.
