Batman: The Killing Joke Will Play In Movie Theaters, Find Out Where And When

8 hours ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

DC Comics has been releasing a steady stream of direct-do-dvd animated movies since 2007, but arguably none of them have gotten as much publicity as the upcoming Batman: The Killing Joke. Adapting writer Alan Moore and artist Brian Bolland’s 1988 graphic novel, it’s not only bringing one of the most iconic Joker tales of all time to a wider audience, but is also the first R-rated DC Universe Animated Original Movie. It was reported earlier this year that Batman: The Killing Joke will be seen ahead of time at San Diego Conic-Con next month, but now fans will also have another opportunity to see it early for one day only in theaters. It was announced earlier today that Warner Bros has partnered with Fathom Events to screen Batman: The Killing Joke on Monday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. in select theaters across the United States. »

‘Suicide Squad’ Is No ‘Deadpool': Warner Bros Film Lands PG-13 Rating

14 hours ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

The Jared Leto-led “Suicide Squad” will not follow in the R-rated footsteps of Ryan Reynolds‘ “Deadpool”: The upcoming Warner Bros. film has officially landed a PG-13 rating from the MPAA. The Motion Picture Association of America assigned it the rating for “sequences of violence and action throughout, disturbing behavior, suggestive content and language.” Generally speaking, box office opportunities are far greater for films more inclusive of the general public, though “Deadpool’s” “R” didn’t seem to hurt it too much. Still, studios highly prefer the “PG-13” — especially for comic book films, which tend to skew younger. Also »

7 June 2016 6:39 PM, PDT | Deadline | See recent Deadline news »

Sacha Baron Cohen is circling a feature film adaptation of the Mandrake The Magician comic strip, a project that we’re hearing is in very early days at Warner Bros with Tropic Thunder scribe Etan Cohen angling to direct (he made his helming debut with Get Hard). There is no script for this, and very few deals are made, we’re told. But any new potential project with Baron Cohen is an eye-opener — even after his last effort The Brothers Grimsby failed to move the needle for… »

‘Conjuring 2’ Director James Wan: ‘There Could Be Many More Movies’

15 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

“The Conjuring” sequel brought back the horror — and hopes for a third movie — at its world premiere on Tuesday night.

Vera Farmiga was blunt about doing “The Conjuring 3.” “Just ask me,” she said on the red carpet at the TCL Chinese Theatre.

Screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes admitted that they’re ready. “Yes, we definitely have a third in mind,” they added.

Director James Wan was a bit more coy — “It depends on what happens this weekend” — but conceded that the source of the franchise could be mined from the true stories of paranormal investigators Ed and 86-year-old Lorraine Warren, who received multiple hugs and kisses on the red carpet.

“There could be many more movies because the Warrens have so many stories,” a beaming Wan said of the possibility of more “Conjuring” sequels.

Patrick Wilson reflected a bit on the fact that he took the role of Ed Warren more than four years ago, »

Although he’s primarily known for his iconic stand-up career as well as his legendary television series, Jerry Seinfeld has done his fair share of work in the world of film as well. Four new releases debuted among the top 10 sellers on the national home video sales charts the week ended June 5.

One of them, Lionsgate’s “Gods of Egypt,” bumped Twentieth Century Fox’s “Deadpool” out of the top spot on both Npd VideoScan’s combined Blu-ray Disc and DVD sales chart and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart. The superhero movie landed at No. 2 on both charts, after three weeks at No. 1.

Gods of Egypt,” an action movie about feuding Egyptian deities, grossed just $31.1 million in U.S. theaters, against a budget estimated at $140 million. The film was criticized for its white cast but it went on to gross more than $142 million worldwide.

The Final Trailer For The Shallows Is Chilling And Suspenseful

2 hours ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Full disclosure time: the first trailer for Blake Lively's The Shallows was a bit underwhelming. Between a vague tagline that just didn't sound enticing, as well as the extremely limited look at what was going on, the film wasn't selling itself all that well. However, this final trailer more than makes up for that, as it provides the ominous atmosphere the teaser should have. You can watch for yourself below. Our latest look at The Shallows comes directly from Sony Pictures themselves, as they've released this short, yet effective trailer through their official YouTube channel. Clocking in at only 23 seconds more than the previously mentioned trailer, this look at the summer survival film basically encapsulates what looks like the first act of the film. Blake Lively goes to the beach, prepares herself for a fun day of surfing, and eventually engages in said surfing, until a jerk of a »

Film Review: ‘London Town’

3 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

In an era where Cbgb can be reborn as a themed restaurant at the Newark airport, and Iggy Pop’s musical accounts of heroin dependency can soundtrack cruise ship commercials, it’s not such a far leap to imagine the music of the Clash and the squalor of punk squats in pre-Thatcherite London serving as the backdrop for a sweetly lighthearted teenage coming-of-age tale. But that doesn’t make it any less strange.

Such is the gauntlet thrown down by Derrick Borte’s “London Town,” which follows a bright-eyed 15-year-old named Shay (Daniel Huttlestone) as he struggles to deal with some tough times in the summer of 1978, finding solace in the music, and the person, of Clash frontman Joe Strummer (Jonathan Rhys Meyers). To be sure, the film has plenty of qualities to recommend it: Meyers’ portrayal of the punk godhead is studied and exacting, from his diction to his »

Amy Pascal on Hillary Clinton: ‘That Last Glass Ceiling Has Been Shattered’

4 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Hillary Clinton made history on Tuesday night by becoming the first woman to clinch the presidential nomination of a major political party. She marked the milestone with a Tweet which read: “To every little girl who dreams big: Yes, you can be anything you want — even president.”

That message resonated with leaders in other industries including Hollywood. As co-chair of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Amy Pascal was one of the few women to lead a Hollywood studio. Variety asked Pascal, who is now the head of Pascal Pictures, to reflect on what that barrier-breaking moment means to her.

Amy Pascal: “I, like many other women of my generation, never realistically imagined that in our lifetime, we would see a woman standing as the leader of one of the two major political parties. Not because we didn’t think a woman could handle the job but because none of us could »

Having concluded his Batman trilogy with The Dark Knight Rises and taken astronauts to another galaxy in Interstellar, Christopher Nolan.s next directorial, feature-length project is winding the clock back to World War II for Dunkirk. The drama has been shooting since late last month, and since this is Nolan at the helm, most of us expect big things from the movie. However, what comes as a surprise is that Nolan might not be sparing the dollars to pull off a stunt with a real World War II plane that will end in fiery glory. According to a source who spoke with Indie Revolver, Warner Bros spent $5 million to purchase a vintage World War II aircraft (the report mention it might be a German Luftwaffe) for Dunkirk that will be equipped with IMAX cameras. Once the production gets some dazzling aerial sequences from it, the plane will be crashed. We »

Amy Pascal, head of Pascal Pictures and former co-chair of Sony Pictures Entertainment

“I, like many other women of my generation, never realistically imagined that in our lifetime, we would see a woman standing as the leader of one of the two major political parties.
