Return to the Class of Nuke 'Em High follows a young couple that are up against the school glee club. Unfortunately, the glee club has mutated into a gang called The Cretins. When the other students begin to undergo mutations, our couple must solve the mystery and save Tromaville High School. Written by tromada e
For 40 some odd years, Troma Entertainment has been going strong. They're responsible for giving us some of the greatest low budget, over-the-top and frequently hilarious bits of celluloid ever. They work super hard to please their loyal fans. This would explain why it takes so long for their films to come out. 'Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger part IV' took a long time to get released, but boy was it worth the wait. Like many other Tromites however, I was asking the question "Where the hell is the next Class of Nuke 'Em High movie Lloyd?" Well my friends, good ol' Lloyd Kaufman and his merry men put their heads together and churned out the latest installment. I'm sorry to say that the end result isn't one for the ages.
Pros: Cast is game. Decent score and soundtrack. Provides a few laughs. Some killer, not to mention gruesome effects. Some cool nods to the earlier films. Quick paced.
Cons: A lot of the humor falls flat. Uneven structure. Some things feel forced. Abrupt, anticlimactic ending. Has an "everything but the kitchen sink" thing going and it becomes tiresome.
Final thoughts: I really wanted to love this movie. It has so much of what I love about these movies, but ends up falling flat a lot of the time. You get the feeling they were trying too hard with this one. It aims to please, but by the end I felt smothered. I'd still recommend this one, but advise all to watch with caution. Perhaps Volume 2 will be of some help.
